Cotto may not be the same, but here's something that's being ignored...

You're fitness theory there may be fact, just that he's made 147 his entire career shows immense dedication and personal fitness. But, that doesn't stop accumulated brain damage, even if it may slow it.

Here's another thing, he's been in many fights where he's taken a ton of hard shots, this one probably being the worst he's had to take, there can't be many more he can do exactly like that, these guys still are humans.

I think you are splitting hairs on the competition. DLH has been in with more big names, but he lost the majority of them. That's all I'm saying. If Margarito gets more big names and wins some, loses some, then he should recieve the same sort of respect. As of right now Williams is a top welter and Santos is a top jr.middle.

I think for the most part that is how it goes for greats anyways. You win some, you lose some. The important thing is you take the fights.

As far as the punches he has taken, he has not shown any signs of wear over his career. He is just hard headed. I mean that literally. I think it also helps that he does move into the punch before it gets full extention at times. But again it's also linked to sparring which if you remember he was stunned by Clottey, and that training camp apparently was horrible. I still think alot of it comes down to conditioning.

**** I'm banned due to a bet I made but I just want to put in my 2 cents. Much props to Margo he utilized his strengths to gain him a hard earned TKO. Great fight much love to both guys....Cotto will be back!!!!!

A lot of times after give and take battle's where both guys take a beating, neither are exactly the same again, as if their peak was taken in the bout, but people always assume that the loser is worse off and thats not necessarily true. A prime example of this is the Vasquez-Marquez trilogy, Vasquez won the trilogy, but he took much more vicious punishment in all 3 fights because Marquez hits harder and Vasquez takes a shot much better than Marquez, look at Vasquez's face after the 2nd and 3rd fights, it's torn to pieces because he's eaten worse punishment from a better puncher(even though he could take it), where as Marquez would lose some rounds by getting stunned even though he landed the far more damaging blows in higher amount in the round.

So, if anybody's going to be finished off from that trilogy, I think it would be Vasquez over Marquez just on amount of damage taken.

I'm not saying that Marg took that kind of damage, but he certainly ate much harder shots during the bout to the head than Cotto did and it doesn't appear so because he can eat it 3 to 4 times better than Cotto can. But if you guys think he wasn't in the hospital after that and having double vision and what not, think again, a repeat performance like this may not come.

If there is a chance that Cotto will not be the same, there is also a chance that this was Marg's peak performance and it'll be a decline from here on out also, because he also took a vicious beating from a very damaging puncher.

I've thought the same but then again Margarito took some insane damage before too and still was able to handle Cotto's punches like he never took any punches before. It's just a gift, some fighters can take for a long time and some just get damaged, Margarito proves after every fight that he can.
