I always thought that Floyd would hit harder, b'n the bigger man...Manny imo although having power, its more the unothordox angles @ which he punches that catches opponants unaware...not that I'd know for sure ofcos
COTTO WAS ONE POUND LIGHTER THAN HIS PREVIOUS FIGHT. Dehydration is what Leonard did to Lalonde. Yes, Pac would have messed up that Cotto even if he could weigh in at 147. Clottey by this logic only had a close fight with Cotto because Cotto choose to come in at 146. If he had had that extra pound, Clottey would have been completely ineffective.
there were other factors in that loss...but i speculated that cotto was not allowed to fully hydrate on fight night. roger mayweather made a statement that ricky hatton was only allowed to gain 5lbs after the first weigh in. any time u restrict a fighters rehydration...their punch resistance goes down. see pac/morales 2 and 3 for proof. cotto has rarely been hurt at 154 and has taken shots from much bigger guys than pac.
some little guys hit harder than bigger guys. Size is not the only thing that determines punching power. Has Cotto fought a puncher at 154? A Julian Jackson type? no.
true. pac's only impressive ko was hatton. i can give him credit for ko'ing a guy who was dehydrated. he dropped a dehyrated poorly trained cotto...but cotto finished that fight on his feet. i never bought into the 'tremendous punching power' hype behind pac.
Cotto is on the record saying weight was not a problem with the fight with Pacquiao. And his statement regardin Floyd is simply Cotto ensuring he gets another payday. Bottom line Manny made miguel quit Floyd went the distance
Wow. QED. Shane Mosely said Pac is the hardest puncher he's ever faced. Canelo didn't drop Mosely and have him backpedaling the whole fight. Clottey said Pacquiao was the hardest puncher he's ever faced and was afraid to open up. Pacquiao has been a hard puncher his whole career and stopped fighters who have never been stopped before. You don't break Margarito's eye socket without punching power. Maybe if someone is saying Pac hits harder than Hearns (haven't seen anyone say that though) are overrating him, but his punching power is not hype.
For those who doubt Cotto statement, you should keep in mind the size difference between Cotto on the night he fought Pac and the night he fought Mayweather. Pac dropped a 145lb Cotto. The heavier you are in most cases the more you can absorb, especially if your fighting a smaller guy. Just because Cotto didn't drop from May punches does not mean that they didn't have as much power or more then Pacs did. Cotto was just able to whitstand them more because of the extra weight he had on him. Now if Pac fight an 154lb Cotto and duplicate what he did at 145lbs, then Cotto statement will be questionable.
the ref stopped it. cotto wasn't even hurt. whatever the case...i'm noticing when pacs opponents haven't been weight drained...he does NOT score his amazing knock outs.
