I'm a fan of Cotto. I respect his no nonsense attitude, his humbleness, his aggressive style in the ring, his will to break opponents down, his versatality. He seems to find a way to win. I think he's a credit to the sport. Mayweather has a big fan base, and noone can deny his skills. He also brings a lot to the sport. Who has more respect in the boxing world as of right now, and who has a bigger fanbase? A side question: It's premature to say now, but looking 15 years into the future, when it's all said and done, who do you believe, will have accomplished more in the sport?
I've always prefered the technical boxers who you can watch and learn from(the reason I'm a HUGE Hopkins fan....still) so I like Cotto alot....but I prefer Mayweather.
Prior to last December I don't think there would be any doubt who had the bigger fanbase, but of course the Hatton fight came into the picture and then converts came abound. Cotto is more well-received among hardcore fans. Critics are still hard on Floyd, albeit not to the same degree as they were a couple of years back. As for respect and recognition 15 years down the road of course it depends on whether or not these two would fight at all, so I guess we have to wait and see.
been a fan of cotto since i first saw him, i think it was his 6th pro fight, i never really thought he would make it where he is now.
that's true. I dislike Mayweather but respect his abilities. I've admired cotto for quite some time now. It's hard not to respect his ring abilities, but also like him as a person.
I love both fighters, but dislike the Mayweather ball-lickers on this site. Easily the least knowledgable boxing fans on ESB, and that says a lot.
Cotto has more respect. Mayweather is seen as the best and people expect too much from him. He says he's the GOAT and he can't demonstrate that. Too much expectations. He is a great fighter but nobody is ever going to be the GOAT. Mayweater can't win the fight against the fans' expectations.
i like Mayweathers style in the ring. i Just don't like his style outside the ring - nothing wrong with trash talking, but doing it his way, without being funny at all, i don't like. I vote Cotto.
