Lately on the General Forum since Zab had to pull of his bout against Mosley, there has been more talk of the Cotto-Mosley fight, at least half of the posters feel Cotto won the fight and the other half either thinks it was a draw or that Mosley should have gotten the nod, I must've watched this particular fight a good 7 times and I find myself trying to see how some can feel that Mosley got the draw or even the win but I always come up with the same score which was for Cotto I just watched the fight again and took notes here we go.......... Round 1)Cotto. Miguel is starting off fast landing more while Shane seems alittle stiff/tight in there even his pops says so after the round. Round 2)Mosley. Shane seems more relaxed getting his some shots in not letting Cotto go to the body by holding him when he gets close. Round 3)Mosley. Shane wins this round easy, and one point his Cotto with a hard punch right on the ear. Round 4)Cotto. Miguel is getting comfortable going to the body sparatically and lands some neck snapping shots on Mosley. Round 5)Cotto. Sloppy round to say the least, but Cotto lands a couple of combos in the course of the round to win it. Round 6)Cotto. Miguel round easily, his jab is effective and he is counter punching very well. Round 7)Cotto. Miguel jab still effective and he is landing his overhand rights. Round 8 ) Cotto. Same story as round 7. Round 9)Cotto. Miguel comes out strong still being effective, at the 1:15 mark of the round Mosley lands a left shot but does'nt follow up then at the 20 second mark of the round Mosley lands a right hand but again does'nt follow up, that's why I gave this round to Cotto he controlled pretty much this whole round. Round 10)Mosley. Shane best round he manages to put Cotto on the ropes and land a couple of nice solid punches, Cotto makes a little late rally towards the very end of this round but it's not enough. Round 11)Cotto. Miguel is fighting off his backfoot countering Shane and lands a nice hard right punch at the 2:10 mark of the round, and Cotto jab seems to come back in play. Round 12)Mosley. Cotto seems content with backing up playing defense neither fighter is'nt hardly landing anything but Mosley is the aggressor in this round so you would have to give it to him. Now I know some will disagree but I can honestly say I scored this fight as impartially as any person could and this is my 7th time watching this fight and I always come back to the same result but I want to hear you guys opinion so shoot..............
What kills me about the fight is when people say that Cotto ran the last 4 rounds. But in reality, Cotto won rounds 9 and 11 by landing the harder shots with round 10 been very close to the point that it could have been an even round. And, Cotto doesnt start moving without throwing anything back until the final 40 seconds of the 12th round.
1. Cotto 2. Mosley 3. Mosley 4. Cotto 5. Cotto 6. Cotto 7. Cotto 8. Mosley 9. Cotto 10. Even 11. Cotto 12. Mosley 116-113 Cotto (7-4-1) People who said he lost the last 3 rounds by running need to rewatch round 11. Every meaningful blow was landed by Cotto going off the backfoot. He landed a huge left hook when he was against the ropes, a big right hand, and a straight left to end the round.
Missed FTs cost them. And, injured Kobe tried to take over at the end but should have let Odom, Gasol and Fisher finish the game. It was them that made the game go to OT. atsch
I'm also a Mosley fan the first time i really got to see him was when my friend showed me a tape of his fight against John John Molina needless to say I was impressed.
I was at this fight and had seen my taped copy at least dozen times and scored it either 7-4-1, 8-4 or 7-5. The more I see it now, I lean more to 7-4-1.
I had it 7-5 for Miguel.. the first time I saw it I had it 8-4 but I watched it over and gave Mosley as many rounds as I could and it ended up 7-5 at the max. Every round was competitive, but there were clean and clear winners of every round. Mosley clearly won 5 rounds, and Cotto clearly won 7 at least IMO. People on this forum saying that Mosley should have gotten the nod, are either 1) overrating Mosley's punching power and disregarding the well placed shots that Cotto landed throughout each round. 2) taking complete advantage of the fact that every round was competitive and thus just being totally bias and favoring Mosley's "Hard Punches".
The tempo of the fight was controlled by Cotto with his jab. Cotto landed like 36% of his jabs around there? Mosley landed like around 15%? Mosley went for the KO, and his strategy didn't work.
yeah definitely pro-cotto. ppl who said he ran are either diehard mosley fans or dont know **** about boxing. it seems like "he ran too much" has become the insult that every ignorant idiot levels at anyone who can box. While running away can be a problem with boxers, moving AWAY from punches does not constitute cowardice.
