Cotto-Mosley Fight Revisited

I had Mosley by a hair. It was a really, really close fight.

 

Yeah, it was close but clear. Even Shane admitted to Oscar he lost after the fight.

 

I'm just interested to know what rounds were given to Mosley to give him the nod. I've never seen anyones scorecard that gave the fight to Shane. After the fight there were like 500 trolls on ESB claiming "robbery" without posting a scorecard lol

 

I watched the fight twice and scored it 114-114 both times.

 

I watched the fight 3 times and had it 7-4-1 Cotto. You may be able to argue at the worse 7-5 Cotto. I cant even see how you could even call it a draw.

 

You're a big Cotto fan, bias could come into play. Merchant scored the fight a draw. Letterman had the fight tied going into the 11th, but gave both rounds to Cotto(many gave Shane the 12th). The two other people I watched the fight with scored it for Mosley. Boxing is a very subjective sport. Neither guy was knocked down or really stunned. They also both landed the same amount of punches;Shane landed more power punches. In my opinion, you could've scored the fight for either fighter or scored it a draw.

You're right, I'm a huge Cotto fan. But I do try my best (but I'm sure we all do) to be as objective as possible. I thought Cotto landed the more clean shots throughout the fight and was the better counter puncher. Although Mosley was moving forward for the 2nd half of the fight, I thought Cotto was effectively outboxing him.

But like you said, many observers will see different things. We cant be mad at eachother. Just different opinions, right?

 

Good post i agree with your scoring & I only rewatched the fight yesterday. Big fan of both & Mosley tended to agree that he thought Cotto had just edged him. I would luv to see them go again but can't see anything different happening. Cotto really mad mosley work hard throughout the whole fight. Tough good fight.

Oh sorry, forgot to say, yeah for Miguel. Wasn't that hard to score, maybe a round or so that were tough, pretty clear win for him. People who say they were surprised that Miguel boxed a) never saw his earlier fights in his career i.e. at least up to the Abdullaev fight b) didn't know that he gave his plan in one of his many interviews. He had heard Shane saying over and over he was going to try to knock him out. He didn't go to the Olympics for nothing, he was groomed as a boxer/puncher which is why I was puzzled when people say he was "1 dimensional". His camp was working on increasing his hand speed to if not be better than Shane's, at least be within par of it.

Don't agree when people were saying Shane landed cleaner shots, you clearly see Cotto's shots snap Shane's head neck back repeatedly, especially his jab. Shane landed alot of 1 punch overhand rights but not much followed behind them. Cotto also every time they were in a clinch really manhandled Shane like a doll. Remember that Shane said he could not move Cotto. His face was also pretty swelled at the end of the fight, while Cotto only had that cut on his eye from the headbutt (same as from the Judah fight when Judah head butted him and cut his eye) and that cut lip.

 

I saw some of the rounds even. I had Mosley wining by one point.

 

I had Shane by 1 point.
