He's a welterweight who took on the middleweight champion, a man who many still listed in the top 10 p4p. In previous years he's taken on Manny, Floyd, and rematched a guy who knocked him out. You don't get much more gutsy than that.

I too followed Cotto at one time I was ringside for his first two pro fights in Texas. When he was set to meet Margarito I was torn between the two I liked both. Margarito wasn't supposed to win everyone said he had no chance even labeling him The Statue. I was ridiculed for picking Margarito to win but win he did LEGITIMATELY!! What turned me against Cotto was the way he jumped on the bandwagon with the "LOADED GLOVES" bull**** after Richardson made that ludicrous "PLASTER BLOCKS " BS Cotto knew he got beaten by the better man on the night

Pac knocked Cotto out.........................Cotto wants to fight another cripple, perhaps someone in a wheel chair....................Golovkin will knock Cotto out and Cotto knows it. Cotto is a chicken when it comes to fighting Golovkin. Golovkin would really hurt Cotto, end his career for good.....................but..................Golovkin "IS" Cotto's mandatory.............................

It so appears that Cotto will give up his title rather than fight Golovkin..........................

    Damn Cotto...

But what I don't understand (I actually understand it perfectly :!:) is that the WBC has a different set of rules for the LMW division as for the MW division. In the Light Middleweight division you don't have to defend the belt at all, or you just defend it at the Welterweight limit.

I have no problem whatsoever with Cotto vacating if he doesn't want to face Golovkin. No one should begrudge him doing so if he does. He should just admit that he thinks Golovkin is too big, strong and hard punching for him and that it would be suicidal to go anywhere near him, especially for someone who is in the twilight stage of a long and hard career, and relinquish the belt and move back down to 154.

And yes, I also gave Sergio (and his promoter Lucifer Dibella) grief about ducking/avoiding Golovkin, and I'm a big fan of his as I am also obviously one of Golovkin's too.

    Isnt there still promotional issues?

Well, it's not like he's the most respected guy in the sport, so it surely won't do his status any good.

Just vacate i have a bad feeling he will stall until he can rematch Floyd @ sept , which will be 17 months for his first defence and it will be against a non MW guy.
