All these are possible matches. Margarito being an eliminator to rematch Pac. Martinez for either Martinez middleweight belt or Cotto Jr. Middleweight belt. Chavez Jr. becuase he's the silver champ. Cotto is a guy who’s been in far too many back-to-back gruelling wars, and one who deserves a few soft fights here and there, especially at a weight he’s really small at. So the following: Martinez – Hell no! Bad match-up for him. A very bad match-up. Margarito – It’s something I’d like to see in the future, but I’m not too confident with Cotto in this. Out of the two, he seems to be more damaged, and the 154 weight will definitely be in Margarito’s favour. Chavez Jr – Yeah! Why not. Beating a young gun would look good for him. Trout – No idea who he is.
For some unknown (WBA ****) reason, Cotto's WBA LMW title has been promoted to SUPER-status, so I doubt he defend against Trout. I see Trout fighting for the vacant regular title, and IMO is the only chance for him to become a (paper)champ. But I like the idea of Margo II and even Chavez Jr
I have always said that Cotto needs a trail fight with Stewart first. A fight with Chavez J.r he can display what he has been learning from Stewart and it would be a awesome win for him. After the Chavez fight then we can bring on Martinez or Margo 2. I doubt it'll happen, but if I was Cotto's team I would puch for the Chavez J.r fight.
