I agree with this. The catchweight may be a factor in judging the victory and the significance of the performance, but it does not completely invalidate the merits of the victory.

We agree often. The weight was not the deciding factor in Cotto/Pac, but it was a factor in Cotto/Pac.

Just look at how great the first few rounds of that fight were. Pac was winning, but it was close. Throw a slightly stronger Cotto in the ring and the rounds get a little closer, there are a few more of them, but Pac still likely wins.

Well....the shot Cotto ate early in the fight, that rocked him definitely played a part in how the later rounds unfolded. PAC gained momentum after he dropped Cotto and never let off the gas.

A "slightly bigger" Cotto would have been 146 lbs on the day of the weigh in like he was when Cotto weighed in for the Josh fight months earlier.

The weight did not affect the outcome of the fight....maybe Cotto could have lasted 12 rounds if he didn't have to shave off 16 oz....but it's highly doubtful.

I agree it would have been more competitive, but Pac ultimately wins. I don't however think the weight loss made him far weaker, just made it so he wasn't as strong or hydrated as he could be on fight night. That and the fact that he had to concentrate on making weight in training, not fully focus on a game plan to beat Pac. People tend to only look at him weighing in at 145, and 146 the fight before. Most don't speak about how he had to train to make weight, as well as take on the toughest fight he had to date. He needed to fully concentrate on the fight plan like Pacquiao did, and it cost him.

145 was not Cotto's Idea that's why he said he wasn't going to put his belt on the line if it was at 145, causing Freddy Roach to throw a tantrum.

But you are right about Margo II, the catchweight was Cotto's idea and now he's saying making opponents to agree to a catchweight is unfair. So he was not fair to margo in the rematch. I guess since he figured/assumed Margo used illigal wraps with him the first time he was going to be unfair the second time.

Actually...145 was Cotto's idea. Which was based on the recommendation of his physician. Cotto tried to make it a "non title" fight but of course PAC only moved up to faced Cotto for the strap.

Cotto didn't want no catchweight the thing is they ( Team Pac ) wanted 143-144. So team Cotto went for 145 but no title on the line. But you know the Bob father had to pull Cotto to the side and promise he would take care of him down the line if he just went for it and put up the title.

You know something like, " I'll give you a shot at the 154 title held by Yuri Foreman, that title is there for the taken..."

So it was settled at 145 for the title.

145 was Cotto's compromise to team Pac's initial offer of 142 or 143 after his physician said it was lowest he could/should go. Wasn't Pac's idea, but wasn't like Cotto said I want to fight Pacquiao for my belt at 145. He didn't want the title on the line, but just like the catch-weight it was the only way the fight was going to happen... And with them both under Arum the fight WAS going to happen.

Ahhh, Cotto fan boys and *****s team up again to discredit the fight that got Cotto butchered and got Floyd running for the hills with non-stop excuses. :rofl
(I still can't get over *****s claiming Cotto got un-shot when he faced Floydie. :rofl :rofl :rofl)

Anybody who thinks if Pac-Cotto happened at the full 147 the result of the fight would be different DKSAB.
Cotto will still get caught by those uppercuts, Pac will still nullify Cotto's jab with the lead left, Pac will still outmaneuver Cotto even when against the ropes, Pac will still shrug off Cotto's best hooks, and Cotto will still be back-pedalling for the most part of the fight when he realizes he underestimated Pac's speed, stamina, power and more importantly chin.

Yup. Is that what team Pac originally asked for 142-143?
