Nothing to do with whiskers, he wasnt knocked senseless he was beaten up and exaushted over a number of rounds.

Thats why he took a knee, there was nothing wrong with his chin :patsch and he didnt quit he just had nothing left.:hat

Indeed. These people don't seem to get the SIGNS of a weak chin when they're staring them in the face. Rocked by light-hitting Corley who he outweighed by 17 pounds!! Nearly taken out by the mediocre Torres!! Jeez, it was right there for all to see.

The verdict is in. Cotto's chin is SHAKY, people!!! :nod

Calling him a quitter is just very stupid.

He took a knee without a punch hitting him and he quit. It is harsh but that is what happened. He then ran to the dressing room without an interview.

I'll be honest...I was and am a HUGE Cotto fan.

However, he did quit. He was beaten physically and emotionally, but he elected to take a knee twice (more specifically the second time when he did so out of pure fear), and decided to take no more punishment.

DO I BLAME COTTO FOR TAKING A KNEE? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

However, would Corrales have ever done it? No.

Now, I don't want everyone going nuts on me, but Cotto wasn't knocked out where he couldn't make a ten count. He was beaten up, and took a knee. That's quitting, or more technically "retiring". The ref didn't say he couldn't continue, it was obvious that Cotto no longer wanted to fight.

He's still a warrior and a great fighter, BUT Margarito beat him into submission and made him quit...plain and simple...

This was an amazing fight and props to Margarito even though I truly beleived Cotto would win. I just feel that Cotto should have stayed off the ropes. His dancing and back peddling was actually winning many rounds. It was the RJJ against the ropes part that did him in. Of course Margarito's pressure just did him in. The stupid HBO commentators did not acknoledge that Cotto could have had his nose broken due to having his mouth wide open. I don't think he could breath right. Great fight for Margarito to attack the body and this is why Cotto's hands were down and he was taking unnescessary punishment. Oh, he did get hit while he was down, but should have covered up so that he would not take a unnescessary punch. Great fight and thanks for the streamline for the fight. WOW!!!

See post number 42, and the reasoning as to why it should be considered "quitting"

yes cotto quit but he quit like a man. He took a serious beating until he saw there was no hope and he decided it was not his day, just like arguello or morales, they were smart enough to know when they were beaten and that is when a fight should end.

Well I don't think he quit... Margo just wore him completely down by the end of that fight. Don't think Cotto could have continued if he wanted to.

Quitter? Pffft. No. He fought very well, but man did he take some punishment. He was getting busted up bad from those uppercuts, and I thought during the second round that the result was inevitable (unless he somehow managed to crawl to the final bell). You could just see what was going to happen, and most fighters would've succumb to the pressure long before Cotto did.
