You're getting too caught up in the term. It simply designates a fighter that won his belt without beating the champ. Nothing more, nothing less. i'm implying that Quintana was tailor made for Cotto. What a minute, didn't Baldo beat Judah? It looks like he can be a spoiler just like Quintana.
That's fine. He'll just keep knocking people out while he waits. He'll continue to get better while Margo will continue to get older and more beat up. You may not believe it, but I actually like the Margo/Clottey fight(not as much as I would like Marg/Williams though). Clottey has a good shot at winning that fight.
Then stop bitching about Margarito ducking people since you believe this will be a tough fight. atsch
Williams could use more fights honestly. He's still got a lot of growing to do as a fighter and facing off on guys like Cintron,Cotto, Mosley and Mayorga would do him a lot of good in facing off on different opponents with different styles. Quintana showed that he could struggle against slicker opponents who won't stand there to get tapped and Williams showed great ability to adapt his style in the second fight. He needs more learning experiences. He's gonna get his shot at a Margarito rematch eventually...in the mean time he needs to keep getting more experience and developing.
the difference is quintana could be a spoiler more than once if he comes with his A game... just stating the difference from a cinderella man than with someone who has boxing skills like quintana...
Seems to me you are. Since you claim he chosed Clottey over Williams in reality he was set to face the Clottey/Judah winner.
I'm not talking about Margarito, I'm talking about Williams in general as a fighter. He's still pretty raw all around and his fight against Quintana showed some weaknesses that we still dont know if they're adressed yet. He beat Margarito of course..but it was a close fight and this version of Margarito is starting a lot quicker than the one who faced Williams. Boxing is a game of adapting. Margarito has adapted to a newer more fast paced style..if Williams fights the same fight, he probably won't get the same results.
He did chose Clottey over Williams. He was not set to fight the Clottey/Judah winner. If he was, he wouldn't have been chasing after Oscar.
