Manny is actaully not that complex a puzzle to get. People are being far to techincal about what its going to take for Cotto to win the fight. Its actaully a simple fight "FOR COTTO" to win. Use his jab the way he did vs Mosley and keep Pac on the outside, time him a couple of times with a right hand down the pipe when Pac jumps in and he can party early. Too many people are fooled by what Pac did to Oscar and hatton, and somehow thinks that it will be a fight that will be like that.

As I see it, Manny is in trouble. Roach has been smart about who pac is fighting but this time they made a mistake, they saw the fight with Clottey and believed that the end of Cotto was near, and true to form and history that is when Pac pounces. He is like that old lion that goes in for the kill shot once the other lions did all the damage.

Cotto has the advantage, size, strength, boxing skills, jab.

His one glaring problem is defense. If he can be a punching bag for slow as molasses margo (go ahead rewatch the fight) thats a huge problem. Clottey fight was the same except clottey is against punching

He does have good timing against guys who are trading with him. If Pac starts trading with Miguel, then there's more to worry about than Miguel's timing. When Cotto's moving, he's not throwing. If they're in the center of the ring Manny will be using alot of movement and Cotto won't be able to set himself for punches unless he sacrifices speed for power as was stated by another poster.

On paper the edge goes to Cotto, in a ring I consider Manny a better fighter.

No you've got it all wrong. 'Roach' is smarter than Cotto, but Cotto is smarter than Pac.

Cotto need's to find a way to neutralize the movement of Pacquiao, and keep his lead hand in the equation. Manny has been able to keep Oscar and Hatton's left hook at bay, and with Cotto being left-hand dominant with a left hook his best weapon, Cotto's going to find it hard to land and may become frustrated. Cotto's straight right hand is going to be a MAJOR factor in this fight.

You either have good timing or you dont. He doesn't decide "today I have good timing because he's a guy who likes to trade, today I will not having timing because he won't trade with me, timing switch off". Watch the Clottey fight, which isn't even Miguel's best performance in which he times Clottey and catches him with a jab, times Clottey coming in to throw his own jab. Although Cotto sometimes does come in hunching low, without throwing a punch, he also comes in throwing a punch such as with a hard stiff jab he springs forward using his legs or a straight right from the outside like he caught Mosley a few times with. Also, you make it seem like Pacquiao is the ultimate defensive mathmatician fighter; hes not. He has good speed and movement and thats what creates a lot of his defense. However, when you have a guy who figures his movement out (i.e. JMM in second fight) he doesn't do much in terms of adjustment. The key punch in this fight will be the jab for Cotto as this will be the one punch he can catch Pacquiao coming in or out as long as he's within range and 'times' him. That will later setup other punches, but he needs to establish the jab, to throw Pacquio out of his rhythm, mark his territory, and take out of his game. Additionally, Cotto will need to make sure he has the final word when punches are thrown and not let Pacquiao get his punches in without being punished, just like JMM did so frequently. Watch De la Hoya vs Pac, and although it was a real **** performance by De la Hoya, all old mummified and all, Oscar still managed to land some jabs when he seldomly threw them. In JMM vs Pac I and II you can see how Pacquiao can be taken off his rhythm when he is countered and not allowed to finish his sequence or get the 'final punch' in, and we all know how Cotto likes to fire back when and if he gets hit. I say when , because we all knows he gets hit, its what comes after that makes Cotto, Cotto.

Msot of Cotto's best work is flat footed. He's not really timing guys on the move. When he's on the move punching it's usually him backing and countering, not awaiting someone moving in and out. Pac seems much more coordinated these days since the move from 130. You can see from his training the stuff they are working on. He has always been an athlete and speed demon but they are now working different aspects of his athleticism. i think his movement is the best and most calculated it has ever been. He use to come in with reckless abandonment but it seems he is now a little more cautious and trying to be more defensive.

    All just a guess.
