Alot of people seem to think Cotto will not be able to recover from such a devastating loss to Margarito, I however think he''ll come back and once again reign atop the welter weight division. A fight with Cintron would be just what the doctor ordered. Cintron has heavy fists and if Cotto could withstand his power and managed a KO win against him it would relinquish some of the doubts in the minds of his critics. Cintron doesn't have an alien chin like Margarito so a KO win is certainly plausible . It would be the ideal warmup fight before eventually fighting Margarito again. Smartest move Cotto could make would be to first challenge Cintron then a champion not named Margarito or Williams before eventually fighting those guys. And hopefully by then Margarito's chin will have softened up some.
It wasnt Margaritos power which won the fight for him. He won the mental battle as he had the better chin and Cotto couldnt hurt him. That and Margarito didnt give Cotto any rest, just kept coming at him. I dont see Cintron fighting like that and think Cotto would beat him.
Cintron is not a good comeback fight for miguel angel. Let's how that margo beating has affected him.
Well I think this is a dangerous fight for Cotto, a lost would set him back big time. Cintron is a big puncher, and has the power to hurt Cotto with one shot. Cintron isn't afraid of Cotto like he is with Margarito. Cintron would be the aggressor in this match up, and we know what happen when Cotto was the defender :yep
I doubt Cotto is wanting to fight Cintron over what he said. The fight makes sense, and he's better than Cintron in every way. Cintron has a little power but Cotto is still a legit champion. He can box, has a chin, and more heart.
What's the upside to beating Cintron? Nothing. What's the downside to getting beat by Cintron. Everything. Top Rank won't do it.
Good post. I don't get the Cintron hype either. He's never beaten anyone of note, he's been destroyed both times he's faced a noteworthy opponent, and he does nothing all that well except hit hard. Cotto should be able to beat him with relative ease. Cintron does not like pressure. Cotto could bully this guy and put his lights out.
Reg, who can press Cintron like Margarito did? Estrada tried it and got knocked out, so did Feliciano. And they both tried their asses off. Cotto is very special offensively but he's walking down a big puncher in Cintron. It seems more likely he doesn't press Cintron and tries to box. I'm not sure what his gameplan would be but to walk down Cintron you gotta have a damn good chin. Cotto simply doesn't.
Neither one of those guys are championship caliber fighters. Feliciano is a C level fighter who was destroyed not too long ago on ESPN. He gave Cintron all he could handle before the ref stopped it. Cotto doesn't have a great chin, but neither does Cintron. Even if he's not able overrun Cintron, he could easily outbox him. Cintron is very ordinary.
Well Feliciano is not an easy fight. I mean sure sometimes he's been caught cold but when he's on he's on. Ask Delvin Rodriguez about that. Estrada is a guy who while not offensively very good he was very durable. And both guys tried to do what Margarito did but lacked the power and the chin and stamina to make it happen. You seem to think Cintron is really ordinary as you stated but that power can be a big deciding factor. Especially when the puncher is being pressed and walked down. Typically you don't walk down a puncher. You smother him or you stay on the outside. It's a fight essentially and no matter how good or how bad you think one of the opponents is, punches tend to land in a fight. Cintron just may throw that one short right that lands clean on Cotto and ends the fight right there. Cotto doesn't smother. He has two modes. He either walks you down and works his way in and then back out. Or he boxes exclusively from the outside and scores counters. That means he'd spent alot of time in that danger zone. You never know.
