One wonders what made this thought possible, that a Shane Mosley would "look to survive", against Floyd himself who had two weight classes on Marquez and still failed to knock the guy out. Maybe because Floyd's rival just did that stuff, make a true tough welterweight decide to merely survive the 12 rounds?
Let me count the ways - how about the fact that Mosley was a lightweight champion that won all of his title defenses via KO. Or the fact that Mosley has KO'd opponents in every weight class he has fought in up to and including junior middleweight - a class that is too big for him - which is a feat that Floyd can't claim. Mayweather hasn't even defeated a prime welterweight as yet. Judah and Hatton were both junior welterweights. The only opponent that Mayweather has faced that is stylistically similar to Mosley is Oscar De La Hoya. De La Hoya had a great left hook and a brilliant jab - but has always had trouble adapting in a fight. De La Hoya gave Floyd all kinds of trouble in their fight - with many feeling he deserved the nod over Floyd. Mosley defeated De La Hoya not once - but twice. Mosley can jab every bit as well as De La Hoya and has the most fluid combinations in the divisions - including Floyd Mayweather who generally has not punched in combination at this weight. Shane can box or punch and has the will to win and fight until the final bell. And beyond all of that Shane Mosley is going to defeat Floyd Mayweather on May 1st and that will set him apart from the rest of the fighters Floyd has faced.
i really wanted an oscar vs floyd 2 almost as bad as i wanted de la hoya to have a second go at trinidad
Can we talk about something that has happened within the past 10 years? :think Shane is no walkover. Like I said, he is the toughest fight out there. But the guy went from complaining about his tooth to breaking up post fight interviews. I like Shane. I do. But he didn't want any part of Floyd before and now all of a sudden he has the eye of the tiger? The dude is old. He still has something left, sure, but 10 years + no roids = not the same fighter.
I believe the same thing. Judah has always been known as a puncher while Mosley's power has always been highly overrated by his jockriding fans. Remember, Mosley didn't have a KO victory for 5 years between the years of 2001-2006. Like I said, overrated. Good power, but definitely not great. Get this straight, Mosley might be a bigger, better, stronger fighter, but Judah was born with that rocket of a left hand that Mosley just doesn't compare to.
The thing about Shane is he can take you at any moment as power does not wane as the fight progresses.
OK...For one Zab was a WW, he KO'd spinks who is now at 154 to become champ. Two, floyd went to 154 to fight Oscar so i guess he has ventured to uncomfortable weights, like Mosley. Three he beat Oscar at 154 much worse than mosley did at the weight. Shane may win, but all that was a bit much.
He'll be Mosley. Floyd has never fought Mosley before, and even this advanced in age version still has things that Floyd will have to deal with. Yes Floyd is very elusive, sharp, and quick but he's also physically the smallest fighter Shane has fought in a long time. All of Shane's losses have come to guys with enough firepower to keep him honest. Floyd doesn't have that kind of power and Mosley NEVER comes to coast to the end and will sell out if he has to because what does he have to lose? At some point in this fight things will get very hairy and that is when either man can shine. I'm very much looking forward to it and don't see it as being as one sided as some here tend to believe it will be. Otherwise it's meaningless for Floyd's legacy. I see a great fight with a surprise or two.
Entertaining thread. From the looks of it Judah did in fact hit Cotto with harder punches when they fought. I'm not sure if much backstory or scientific explanation is necessary. Even with the same fighter things can change from night to night... Power is crazy sometimes, more everyday others. Quality of the shots... Ect. I'm pretty sure Margarito would say Mosley hits harder than anybody. They all have their reasons. Usually simple.
If Mosley follows Mayweather around like that throwing one shot at a time I won't feel bad for him if he loses.
I can see that you have no argument now. How about we talk about what they've done in the past few years - such as knocking out the welterweight champion which is something Floyd Mayweather has never done. Floyd isn't knocking Mosley out and he's not making him quit and fight to survive. Floyd's chance lays in trying to outbox Mosley. Mosley can box or punch with Floyd and you better believe that this is the biggest threat that Floyd has ever faced in his 40-0 career.
True. Though I'm inclined to believe Judah is more of a sniper with his punches than Mosley. Punch accuracy plays a big part in punch impact.
I never really put too much emphasis on what active fighters say about others in terms of ability, punching power, etc. We don't really know what is going on in their heads as they may have a hidden agenda by talking. You never know. Retired fighters looking back is different. For example, Clottey saying that Manny is going to be too much for Mayweather if/when they fight. May indeed be true but Clottey is coming across like a tool. "Look what he did to me, imagine what he'll do to Mayweather!!". STFU
