My post wasn't directed solely to you. But I have always been a bigger Margarito fan then a Cotto fan and I wouldn't count out Cotto one bit. He's too hard a hitter and puts strong combinations together very well.
This Paulfv guy is a bit of a tool. Roy beat good competition -- proven champions before him and after. He was beat when he was out of his prime and had to shed off 20lbs of pure muscles within a few months. Mayweather would never lose against Margo -- Margo doesn't have the skillset to accomplish it. Only Cotto has the skillset from what I can see, but I still believe Mayweather beats em. Cotto isn't passed it Roy Jones. Cotto is in his prime, in Jones prime he was nearly invincible. Jones loss after he slipped, Cotto is far from that reality. He should beat the very limited Margo. Emphasis on should. Even if he loses, Margo still isn't very good. Pavlik is by far better than him also. The hype over Margo makes no sense, it is probably the most confusing thing to witness on this forum.
Taylor nearly had Pavlik out of there in the first fight and fought him close to even in the rematch. There was nothing easy about it. More on topic, both Cotto and Margarito have advantages over the other. Margarito is better at moving forward and brawling (chin, power, etc.), while Cotto offers more dimensions and greater speed. Remember, lateral movement was a contributing factor as to why Williams largely was able to nullify Margo's offense. That said, I disagree with those who say that a Margarito win would be a major upset. It's a tough fight to call, in my opinion, but I'm edging Cotto slightly due to his greater boxing ability. But you can argue it either way. I also believe Cotto's chin has improved since he moved up to 147, although obviously he can be hurt at that weight as well. It won't be his chin or power that win him this fight, though -- it's all about the condition of his legs.
Skill isn't the only thing that wins fights. Floyd doesn't have the movement he used to have nor does he throw the combinations necessary to beat Margarito today. Margarito might not have his skill, but he'll outwork and out fight Mayweather.
Just shut up! If all you're gonna do is post hate for some of the best fighters in the sport then just get out of ESB because no one wants to hear it. Roy Jones Jr was the best boxer and the most skilled of his time. If Tarver would have fought him at his prime, he wouldn't have been able to touch him. Cotto has proved plenty that he is one of the best fighters now, much more than Jermain Taylor. How can you compare Margarito to Pavlik? Pavlik is twice the fighter Margo is. So do us all a favor and just stop posting and keep your hate to yourself.
I remember this guy was one of the biggest whiners in the forum when Cotto beat Mosley, this guy is joke.
No. Mayweather does have the movement he used to have, he has a even further perfected defense, and he will score on Margo all night if they fought. He displayed all these things against Hatton -- the reason he doesn't have to move as much because he has a lot of confidence in his defense which he has mastered -- but he moved a good deal against Hatton. Unless Margo develops a sharp jab, decent handspeed with good timing and IMPORTANT good footwork/movement, I can't see him honestly winning. In Castillo case mayweather hurt his shoulder and was complaining about it after the 4th round. Castillo had good footwork and his handspeed was decent enough. Margo is no Castillo. Cotto has good handspeed, good movement/footwork, and a sharp jab. These things Margo does not have at all. And this thread isn't about Mayweather, so I agree to disagree.
This year's Jermain Taylor ...:think Hmm lets see Taylor fought Hopkins won by 2 razor thin decisons gets knocked out by Pavlik then loses to him in a rematch by decision ..Margarito looks like hell agains Clotty then loses to Williams ..And Cotto well who's the last guy to really make him look bad ? Beat him ?? It amazes me the ignorance that is born everytime there is a new generation of boxers ! I guess this us why the message boards will always thrive ! Margarito is the most over hyped fighter in mssg board history when he finally meets Cotto we will learn this lesson all over again !!
My apologies, then. ---------------------------------------- * 20 post guy: Shut up. You are way out of your depth. * Lampley: Yeah, how'd that fluke (read: Pavlik was taunting Taylor by sticking his chin out) 'near-KO' work out for JT, huh? Right, he was on his ass to end the fight and didn't get jack done in the rematch. Case closed. Pavlik owns Taylor, just as I said he would. Just as people who saw past The Taylor Myth knew was going to happen. If you haven't figured that out yet you may want to go get a late pass. 2-0, that's the bottom line. You can rationalize it any way you want but JT got KTFFFFFFFO in the first match (remember the insane "The ref stopped it too early" posts?), lost in the second and quite simply can't hang with Pavlik and isn't in his class. Ain't gonna be no rematch, and Taylor don't want one, capiche? What you think about the matter isn't germane, or Jermain. 2-0, one KTFO, one myth and HBO fraud exposed forever. That's it. * Bodyshots, pngo -- See you in 5 weeks. * Zakman is right and 20 post guy is wrong: PBF retired because he knows he can't beat Margo. He is not what he once was and though he would likely last the fight, he would be catching HUGE bombs from Margo's 100 punches per round and would never be the same after the fight. Pretty Wuss knew the deal and got out why he could. And that just shows that PBF is smarter than a guy like RJJ.
Cooke -- Thanks. Look, if Cotto wins I'll give him HUGE props. Just like I will take pictures when pigs start flying. Imperial -- What are you emperor of, FantasyLand? Oh, wait, you got a picture of Glencoffe's small female canine in your sig. Got it. I don't need anymore info. The reason I don't post here as much anymore is because I feel like Gulliver among the Lilliputians. It's fun for awhile but it gets old. And, as you have demonstrated, there is no real change in the fanboy constituency which makes up many of the board's writers and posters.
Whats funny is that the rematch w/JT IT was a very close and competitve fight but yet he couldn't hang with him ? Didn't he also floor Kelly in the 1st fight ? Its funny how these things never get mentioned ..And as far as MW and Jones lets not forget where Jones place in boxing history is where MW well there will always be ?????? But hey at least he has money ! Oh and as far as Margarito where the hell were those 100 punches in the Clotty and Williams fights ??
Kelly Pavlik is a better fighter than Jermain Taylor. Kelly Pavlik did not easily defeat Taylor on either occasion, not did Bernard Hopkins, nor Winky Wright. Taylor is pretty ****ing good, irrespective of whether you'll admit it. And in the rematch, Taylor won numerous exchanges. His problem was and is a lack of stamina. I thought Pavlik took it 7-5 and full credit to Kelly, because he is staying active and has represented the sport very well. I hope he enjoys a long, great career. You desperately want to distort the nature of those two fights to fit your agenda -- "Kelly rules! Jermain sucks! HBO is biased! -- but reasonable minds see otherwise. And your Jones hatred is ignorant and embarrassing. The "cab drivers" myth has been debunked on this board many times. I do enjoy some of your detailed commentary; it's just a shame that your biases and egocentric style detract from the merit of your posts.
