Cotto should rather fight Maravilla at LMW than Chavez Jr. at catchweight MW

Gave me a lot of good fights and I wanna see another one, that's what. Funny how people justify really bad fights such as Cotto-Mayorga or Pacquiao-Mosley, but the no1 LMW's life is in danger vs. a 36yo Martinez even at 154lbs? Then how is he supposed to beat Margarito?

I'm a boxing fan and I just wanna see good fights. Cotto-Martinez is good. Cotto-Chavez Jr/C-level top Rank fighter and Martinez-Ishida/Manfredo are not. Who did what to you and to other boxing fans to stop asking for good fights?

The idea of cashing in on the smaller guys comes from the fact that there are middleweights out there for him to fight, but because they're not financially viable, he's opting for the smaller guys instead - who are financially viable.

Am I blaming him for this? Of course not. But there's no denying that this is the case. It's a shame, because if any fighter deserves big paydays, it's Sergio.

We must be going soft, but I know Cotto to be a good, skilled, brave fighter, and Ive seen him go through the fire enough during his rise that I don't need to see it again in his decline.

So would I pick Martinez for his last Hurrah?

Not now, lett cotto face cintron first then margarito, martinez should fight sturm and then chavez/zbik winner, then we can have martinez vs cotto next summer. with martinez being a little bit older and cotto more used to 154 we will see a better fight.

No, this IS your interpretation. Mine is he wants the best to become the best and guess what he says? "I want the best to become the best". And guess what he does? Fights the best regardless of size. How's beating Ishida, Manfredo or Pirog helps his case better than beating Cotto, Floyd or Pac at 154 after he beat Pavlik, Williams and Dzinziruk? Does he look like a cherry picker to you? You see everyone has an opinion and I respect yours. In my opinion however you pulled this "he wants to cash in or smaller guys" out of your ass. His actions beg to differ.

Can't belive it's been a year since he's been in the ring. Technician or not that ring rust will show and he is ****ing up the rest of his career.

Hate Pac-Mosley or not Shane is still a top name in Pacquiao's division.

Marg has less in the tank than Martinez for certain and Cotto-Martinez is too damn risky for Cotto. Even riskier than a Marg rematch. Cotto-Martinez is a career-ending fight for Cotto at least for now. Cotto is still testing himself at 154 and steadily gaining confidence.

Cotto has no chance against martinez. He is past his best now and has fought more than enough good fighters, there is no need for him to take a fight his handlers know he will loose. They are in the later stage of his career and need to match him up against the right fighters.

Sometimes boxing fans are hard to follow. One day they unleash hell on any protected fighter, another day a certain fighter needs to be protected? :huh And you wonder why Arum says "I know what the fans want and they can go **** themselves" - maybe he know sthat we don't really know what we want.

It's not like Cotto is close to 40 and coming off two very disappointing performances and I suggest him to face a young lion divisions apart, he's coming off 2 straight world title stoppage wins and is ranked no1 by The Ring at 154. How is there a better fight on the planet around that weight than Cotto-Martinez? I'm a big Maravilla fan but he's not ****ing unbeatable, especially not if he has to drain himself for the LMW limit. Cotto is 30 and doing just fine.

How come every fan of a certain fighter point out things like 'too small', 'over the hill' etc. when 36 year old former welterweight Martinez is mentioned? If he's THAT dangerous how come he's not ranked P4P the best fighter on the planet today? Isn't that the glory Cotto is after too? Who should they fight to achieve their goal? Wolak? Ishida?

Arum will not allow Cotto to within 10ft of Martinez :deal , Cotto does what he's told because after all is said and done Arum has made Cotto a very rich man !!!

This fight should not happen , Cotto is a WW Martinez is a MW , its a miss match

Arum will already have a plan B if Margo is out , stand by for it

I like Cotto too much to want to see him against Martinez. He'd get KOed without much doubt.

Then that's where you and I differ. You, with your rose-tinted glasses, actually believe he and his promoter are wanting to fight the best opponents out there. Whereas I believe he and his promoter are wanting to take the big-money fights which are more winnable. Hence the reason why they're not too keen on any of 168 fighters - who are both the best and financially attractive, but are not easy to win. Cotto, on the other hand, will give him lots of money and be an easy victim.

Again, I'm not bashing Martinez for this. I'm just calling it how I see it, and totally defend Mayweather's, Pacquiao's and Cotto's decision in not obliging him.
