Cotto should rather fight Maravilla at LMW than Chavez Jr. at catchweight MW

This is a fight I would love to see! But lets be honest, Martinez is looking for BIG paydays and the only ones that can offer him that are Mayweather, Pac and Cotto which aren't far from his reach. Martinez won't go to 168lbs, its more likely that the S6 move down to MW to face Martinez and we know fights with Froch, Bute, and Ward won't take place at MW. The S6 won't try to give any advantage to Martinez and vice versa by Martinez going up a few pounds. The only fight that I see that can be made is with Cotto since Cotto stated in the past that he wants to fight Martinez too. But realistically speaking the fight won't happen, not because of Cotto but because of Arum. Arum already has plans to face Cotto with Chavez Jr if he wins his next fight and once again keep it in house. So a fight between Chavez Jr/Martinez won't happen either. I think the only option Martinez has for a GOOD money fight is a fight with Abraham at 160lbs on November/December or a PW/Martinez 3. Mayweather and Pac won't fight Martinez at 154lbs either and I don't blame them, HIGH RISK-HIGH REWARD; they are looking for low risk high reward.

    I agree.

In regards to S6 guys, I think they'd be happy to fight Martinez at 168. This is very possible if Martinez is willing. Beating any of them is far more credible than beating a small, faded Cotto who isn't as effective at 154 as he was at 147.

That's the saddest thing I've read in this thread so far, you're indirectly saying you're cool with the low risk high reward mentality, which is causing boxing's slow death. Don't think for a moment this great April was something that's a new standard, promoters worked extra hard to keep the risk value low, the sport just did a number on politics. But your mentality outnumbers mine so it's unlikely to happen too often.

I just want great fights and I consider no1 LMW and 'P4P-er' Cotto vs. Martinez at 154 one. Oh well, I'll move on. Just don't come back blaming Martinez when he fights a bum. Some have every chance to fight the best but choose bums and money. He wants the best but the way things are he'll only get category B - and your (plural) blame for it.

Sergio Martinez blamed for cash in on small men! :patsch Dear Lord what happened to our fans!

give it up. boxing have weight divisions for a reason. if Martinez will only go down at 154 for the 3, that says a lot of what his aim is. it aint about fighting the best as you want it advertised.

Like anyone can bash Cotto for his level of opposition, dude has fought damn near everybody and always comes to fight. I do think him vs. Maravilla would be quite an interesting fight technically, but with Sergios superior athletic ability, the longer the fight goes, the more he'd be taking over.

Miguel Cotto is not a middleweight, he's arguably not even a full fletched LMW, he's very small for LMW whereas Sergio is not even a small MW.

I would not advice Cotto to fight Martinez. Cotto a former light welter tok too much beating against Pac. A brutal beating from Martinez over many rounds would be a way to end his carriere too early. Cotto should clean up 154 before that.

Cotto doesn't need to fight SM. He is much smaller than SM and would probably be killed.

What makes you think Abraham would want to fight Martinez right after his elimination? What makes you think he'd want to fight again outside of Europe after his experience so far? And who would really give Martinez much credit for beating him? I'm also dubious of the idea that beating any of the S6 guys would vault Martinez past Pacquiao any P4P list. Only beating the winner of the tournament would potentially do that (I'm not even sure of that to be honest), and I don't know what good it would do him to be fighting well outside his best weight class when he'll probably have to wait over a year and half for the winner of Ward/Froch-Bute/Kessler to become available.
