Cotto should rather fight Maravilla at LMW than Chavez Jr. at catchweight MW

It's amazing how everyone is quick to criticize Cotto, but then again he is the only guy with balls to accept the risky fights that no one wants. Martinez is a great fighter, he should concentrate on stamping his name as p4p by going up at 168 and defeating any of those champs. Thats what we should be talking about.

Yes I know its sad but its the reality. Pac and Mayweather are looking for low risk-high reward fights. A fight with Martinez won't give them that. It would only put them on risk of losing their momentum for a possible "future" fight between them. A loss on Pac side or Floyd's side and that will hurt them on the agreement table if they decide to fight each other. Why do you think there are rumors of Floyd fighting Ortiz next? Its a good fight on paper but a fight Floyd CAN win. It sucks, I know, because I too would like to see Floyd/Pac/Cotto vs Martinez at 154lbs but we know those fights will never happen.

Yes, the S6 will be happy to fight Martinez at 168 but Martinez will be happier if they fight him at 160lbs. Its about who is willing to move up or move down and by the looks of it none are willing to do so because by doing so will only give an advantange to the other. I think Martinez is basially ****ed at 160lbs. because if Chavez wins Arum won't pit him against Martinez. And Canelo at 154lbs is too green and same thing, GBP won't pit him against Martinez. So I guess we will see Martinez/Williams 3 in the future.

weren't Calzaghe and Jones promoting themselves?

    That's a huge difference.

A little update here, you're gonna love it: Bob Arum is planning Cotto-Chavez Jr. for the fall, guess what, almost certainly at MIDDLEWEIGHT as Chavez has no intentions going back to 154. But that's exactly what Sergio Martinez said on Saturday (scene), that he's ready and able to go back to LMW if the best challenge comes there, and I don't ever wanna hear the bull**** again that him vs. the no1 LMW & The Ring top10 P4P-er for the LMW championship is a BS or 'unfair' fight - it's the best possible match-up in the division, and Martinez, a former WW is out of options at MW.

Are we gonna go stupido now and demand to stop making fights like Mayweather-Ortiz, Pacquiao-Bradley, Ward-Abraham, Klitschko-Adamek or Donaire-Mares because there's a decisive favorite in these fights? The things I read in this thread are worrying as a fan.

Martinez said he can make 154lbs, so should we get Martinez-Ishida and Cotto-Chavez Jr. at MW this coming fall, or Cotto-Martinez at 154 in a great and fan-friendly showdown between the former and current no1 LMW in the world? Rhetorical question.
