Go back and read again. Does ROUND 7 ring a bell? Margarito ****s him up again. He may not be the same, but I bet he has taken those beatings physically and mentally much better than Cotto has. I'm really afraid of a Margarito - Cotto 2, Cotto might leave the ring on a stretcher, I'm not kidding or hating. I truly like Cotto, and I'm not a fan of Margarito, but Cotto's got nothing on Margarito.
But why do you want to see him brutalized? There is like 90% chance that he gets brutalized, why do you wanna see that? He won't hurt Margarito, you know that.
I think retirement may be premature, but I agree with those who say that Cotto's days of fighting the absolute "elite" of the division may be over, or at least numbered. We have to remember that guys like Manny Pac and Floyd Mayweather are unusual and its very rare that you have even one guy like that around, let alone two fighting in the same division at the same time. Just because he's no longer at a level to be signing to fight all time greats, doesn't mean that he can't continue to have a career in some capacity.. Miguel Cotto still has enough left to fight plenty of quality contenders and alphabet titlists.. Weather or not he feels that its worth it for him to do so, is entirely his perogative.
The rematch with Margarito needs to happen. I will say that if the first fight was on the level and there indeed was no glove doctoring then Cotto loses again. Cotto cant fight going backwards and he cant handle all out pressure. He seems to fold when you run in on him all out. I shudder to think what happens if James Kirkland gets in there with Cotto. I feel that Cotto can compete with the Alvarezes and Chavez Jrs of the world but last week put serious doubt in my mind and I can see the end is near for Cotto and I DONT want to see the man hurt bad. the rematch with Margo has all the answers if he cant win that he needs to call it a career
I think the outcome between Cotto and Margo is going to dpend largely on how much either man has left. Margo is still dangerous no doubt, but he's pushing 33 years of age, and hasn't done much significant as of late. Cotto is still somewhat young at 30, but there's no telling exactly how much toll some of the beatings he's had have taken. I'd like to see Miguel avenge that loss if he can, then maybe fight 1 or 2 more bouts before hanging them up.. Dont' know if it will ever come to pass though.
Cotto looked fine in the Mayorga fight, but he wasn't the same in any type of way. I think he should retire after fighting Margo...win or lose. And I think he'll lose.
Errr no. Why would he retire. He could probably beat berto, Brundage, cintron, would love to see him fight williams. Could beat a lot of good fighters out there.
Of course I dont want to see him brutalized but we can go on and on about how you think Margo will stop him and how I think Cotto can win a UD. Cotto deserves this rematch and if he loses then he can retire. I doubt he gets brutalized though.
Do you think he'll beat Margo? I know you're a Cotto fan too. What do you rate his perfromance in the Mayorga fight? 1-10?
Question is does he fight Margo next or get a couple more fights that pay well and finish with margo win or lose. If he takes margo now and gets a beat down I fear that would certainly end his career.
People who have closely followed Cotto's career and know a bit about technique will see improvements, but those determined to define Cotto as a washed up fighter will continue to see what they want to and exaggerate imperfections.
Well we still haven't seen Cotto vs De La Hoya. That might be a good fight. Both are equally faded. He still has to rematch Margarito. And Paul Williams is still there. He has the chance to pick up some nice paydays before calling it quits.
