You may call me crazy but I don't think the WBO should have let Cotto put his title on the line on Saturday, because at the end of the day it was at a catchweight.

I know its only two pounds, but the WW title was up for grabs and the last I checked the WW limit is 147 not 145.

Please note : I don't think the result would have been any different, I just think that the WBO should not have made Pacman #1 contender and then to stage the fight at a catchweight with the belt on the line.

I think the WBO just wanted a high profile name as their next Champ.

Armstrong won the Welterweight title near the lightweight pound limit.

I say if your lighter than the champion for the title, and you beat him, that title should be yours.

A guy under the title limit, should claim the title. Over the title limit is other story though.

Im just saying I think as Cotto was the champion he should have been allowed to come in at the maximum weight limit.

I agree. Even though Pac would have destroyed him regardless, Cotto was entitled to defend his title at the 147lb limit.

Imo i'm a huge Cotto fan but end of day he agreed to the terms and lost. I wish he never did and i agree with what your saying but end of day i wish Miguel just said no 147 but he didn't because he's a warrior who will fight the best and people should applaud him for it because without fighters like him boxing would be a poorer place. Wish certain fighters could have his attitude to boxing.

But Armstrongs opponent was free to weigh in at 147, thats the difference.

Titles should not be disputed at catchweights.

    I agree.

    Yes you are crazy!

I'm one of those who's againts catchweight bs on a title fight but since everythings agreed upon before the fight there's no reason not to give the title to Pacman.

Thats not really what he is saying though is it? I agree Cotto should have been free to fight at 147 if it was for his title, and for the record this arguement was voiced before the fight, maybe not as Vociferously as some but they were there... and you know what they say about empty cans rattling the most.

    You're right.

If they wanna say "Manny is a junior-welterweight", but he is willing to challenge full-fledged welterweights at a catch-weight, thats fine. I don't have a problem with it... It's a non-title-bout

BUT,,, if he wants to win the welterweight title, the limit is 147lbs... end of story! :deal

If the sport of boxing had any integrity (ie; upholding its own rules) we might not recognise it anymore.

He was allowed to. The WBO made no restriction whatsoever on the weight. He agreed to fight at 145 to make the fight made but you can't ask them to not put their title up and collect their money because the fighters came to a seperate arrangment.
