Exactly... :good Its only his 5th post but he knows whats what. welterweight = 147lbs... look it up. :deal
i dig you on this...not only did cotto lose but he lost his earned title fighting at the weight that the current or former champ fought in...you ppl say those two pounds didnt kill cotto but unless u ever had to cut almost 25 pounds from your diet you feel the effects...i honestly think if the fight contract said for both fighters to enter at 147 and not 144 or 145 the fight could have been a little more competitive...
I was against it, but Cotto agreed, he didn't have to and personally I think he had a lot of options besides Pac (of course, for less money). But he agreed, so all's fair. Plus, he could have weighed 147 if he wanted to, the fight would have continued if he did, he'd just have to pay a fine. Floyd did it, so could Cotto...
The thing is we don't know 100% how much pressure was put on cotto to accept fro Arum especially as negotiations didn't go smoothly at the start so there might hav been some issues but maybe cotto is too much of a warrior that he would not want to back out anyway! Also remember the money he made would have been worth more than any other fight out there at the time
Any match where the fighters weight between 140.01lbs and 147lbs is by definition a welterweight match, so yeah Cotto shouldn't have his title. I agree though that catchweights are BS, however they are a part of the business and they both agreed to it. At the end of the day the extra 2lbs wouldn't have mattered, maybe Cotto would have finished the fight, thats it.
