i was rewatching the fight today and noticed everytime he seen foreman stumble a bit with a great chance to score a knock down he stood back and let foreman get his balance back anyone else notice this?
Yea, I agree somewhat with relentless though, it's a fight, if Foreman wants to continue he's got to deal with what he was dealt. It was stupid but sportsmanship at the same time.
I'd like to think that it's good sportsmanship, where the person is focused on overcoming challenge with a certain sense of honor and pure desire for testing themselves, rather than simply winning at all costs. In other words... Why take advantage when your enemy is weak, when it's much more fun to strike while they're at their strongest? You need a genuine "lust for battle" to understand that.
Patience is a much better word than stupidity. Cotto wasn't threatened by Yuri when he had both legs, let alone one. He never lost control of what was happening in the ring.
If Cotto was losing the fight or appeared to be behind in the cards, then I would say that's stupid. But he was in no danger, and was handeling Yuri's shots well, so I'll call it good sportsmanship. :good
It's really a balance with how your opponent compares to you and how you value or define 'winning'. The more outclassed/beaten someone is, the more tempting it is for them to forgo sportsmanship. Of course there's many other ways to look at it.
Finally someone notices this as well. I saw this the first time I watched the fight as well. I think Cotto thought that the fight would be stopped at any moment anyway, so I think he took it easy on Foreman. I think he did more than back off when Foreman stumbled, he wasn't really going after him too much either, just enough to make it look like he was still fighting. Only after it became painfully clear that it would taking someone shooting Foreman in the leg with a shotgun for the fight to be stopped by Mercante, then Cotto went after Foreman to end it, and got it within seconds. But even then, he didn't go headhunting, he set up a body shot. Great sportsmanship from Cotto, not stupid at all when you've won just about every round anyway.
Yes indeed, and I think that was what Steward told him. Stick to the plan and don 't rush and get crazy even having an advantage :good
I already posted this before from an interview in primerhora.com he stated he felt sorry for foreman and didnt fully attack him as he felt bad for da guy limping like that, but he had 2 do what he had 2 do
