Cotto fought a good fight, and showed another side. He adapted far better than I thought he would.

Miguel said it himself, he knew he wasn't going to knock Shane out, thought he had a lead on the cards, so he figured he would win in an easier fashion.

Like Emmanual and Lamley, I feared Cotto was hurt, although he didn't look hurt, I thought maybe he broke his hand or something.

Great fight for Cotto, he continues to impress me.

    Nice post Orishaman.

Cotto did impress me a lot in this fight, he's a very smart and focused fighter with better than average hand-speed and great power. I loved the fight, both gave and took plenty, it was exciting.

Cotto did pretty much everything right in this fight. He really impressed me with his jab and overall boxing ability. I have nothing bad to say about him.

The only item I taught might have been a issue was when in the 5th round Evagelista ask Cotto how he was doing....and very casually just before the bell rang, you will notice he ask him: How about the ear?

If you guys recall Cotto had his drum blown from his left ear on the Guzman fight, this is a type of injury that takes enormous amount of time...I wondered if he reinjuered his ear...Cotto's hands where unusually high after the 5th round, even higher than his regular stance....

People tend to overlook that injury, when questioning Miguel's chin.

Since the ear problem has healed, and he moved up to 147, his has shown some serious wiskers.

    :yep

Against Shane, Cotto showed the skills I claim he always had. Skills are there for the eyes to see, it is about implementing and executing. How people can't see Cottos skills is unbelievable.

    Slow and one dimensional

Aas you know your ears give you balance and any injured to your ear like a busted drum will affect yur balance...he is clearly healed but the question by Evangelista got me thinking...I am checking with my brother in PR and see if he heard anything about it....but again this I am sure was the number one reason for Cottos boxing display on the last 3 rounds...also I notice that he prefere to box backwards while countering SSM with ease so he also notice that by moving backward and SSM co ing forward he was far more effective with his counters...beating SSM to the punch

I never said he was one dimensional and unskilled...remember he was well schooled amateur also, eventhough his style was far more condusive as a pro..he had great skills on his amateur career...

Good post Orishaman - you're always spot-on when it comes to Cotto

I'm surprised some are saying they are surprised by the versatility Cotto showed. In some fights at 140, he would fight off the backfoot, counter, and land the effective shots. He's really a complete fighter...

Yes, he showed some versatility then. But not against elite level competition. So he surprised me with it.

The thing that surprised me most was the fact he elected to fight off the backfoot for 4 rounds. I expected him to put the pressure all 12, if needed, on the older Mosley. But Mosley is so physically strong.

When he fought Pauli you will notice that he fought on his back foot backtracking the entire night, he was counteering easily to the seemingly quicker Pauli...and Pauli is a skillfull fighter.....
