Its really that simple, prior to Margarito cotto had enough power to either hurt or at very least keep his opponent off him for 12 rounds. But with Antonio nothing he threw at him could hurt him, or stop him from continually coming forward. Hardly a remarkably detailed analysis to be sure, but i truly think that is the crux of it. Sage
that and his defensive flaws... uppercuts. Cotto was clearly ahead until Margarito hurt him with these uppercuts. I don't know why but Cotto always, in every fight, has a hole right between his arms which makes him opened to the uppercut continually.
He never hurt Mosley, either. That was a harbinger of what was to come in the Margo fight, as was Cotto's track meet from rounds 9-12 against SSM after Cotto was stung to the body. Once I saw those two things, I knew he would not make the final bell versus Margo.
Great call. Manny Steward said he thought the punch that would trouble Cotto was the left uppercut, as it had in other fights. And the punch that set Cotto up for the first kneel down? Left uppercut.
:good The real opener of that heavy barrages in the 11th was a left uppercut. It changed things from Cotto being a struggling fighter to a completely doomed fighter. It really sickened him that punch.
Wonder what went through Cotto's mind after he threw every punch with conviction and Antonio didn't budge ..
