Cotto Statement on Steward:

To be fair, Margo showed a bit of improvement in speed and defense. He shelled up against Pacquiao like we're not used to seeing. Even against that other tune-up he was jabbing and covering up more than usual. His speed against Pacquiao was better than anything we've seen from him thus far. So he's improving a bit, but Garcia took away the output. He didn't throw as much as he used to.

 

damn..I know a PR homie out here in Vegas that is looking to train fighters. Problem is, he's not a big fan of Cotto.

 

Wlad is fighting Mormeck in December. And he was also busy with Lee for Chad, Dawson didn't wanna move camps to meet with Steward so he dropped him. Andy went one camp without Steward (against that dude that nearly KO'd him if it wasn't for the last minute KO) for the Cotto fight against Mayorga, so he pretty much paid him back for it by taking him as a priority this time around.

 

Again...if people would take the time to read the opening posts, you'll see he's trained Odlanier Solis amongst the number of huge Olympic stars of Cuba...so yea...he's trained some pros.

 

Let's see...Santiago...Cotto's personal spit bucket holder...or Pedro...an CUBAN Olympic AMs trainer who took most of those guys to medals and trains Odlanier Solis and has connections to better sparring partners. I think this was a good choice. A good fit? Who knows. Wise choice is a yes. Santiago? Bad choice. Good fit.

Seriously man...lighten up. Cotto's got this.

 

a prime mayorga (forrest r.i.p fights) was better in all areas, his speed, power and chin would have been enough for him to get rid of cotto ON THAT NIGHT. mayorga of the vargas fight was nothing special, the fight took place at over middleight i think. and against shane i had mayorga winning until the KO but he did look well conditioned for the fight.

that was at the conclusion of the fight when foreman was just waiting to be finished. early on the jab was the key to cotto taking the rounds.

 

i saw a seckbach video where robert garcia says arum once asked him to train cotto, he was ready to do it but cotto refused in the end, i reckon that would have been a good fit.

 

Wtf? Do you know anything about him? He trained Hearns from ametures. He trained Holyfield after bowe 1 loss and made him win a rematch. He picked up Lewis after his first loss. He picked Wlad after his career was in toilet. He often picks a fighters on a slide and make them great. He gives them little somethings they miss.

Yeah, seems like he's made a habit of picking up fighters after bad losses and rebuilding them into better or greater fighters. Interesting gamble by Cotto, but it makes sense he'd want someone who will give him their full undivided attention for such a big fight in his career.

 

This makes me nervous for him.

 

I think Cotto should still have Stewart as a tactical advisor in that training camp... I mean, come for a weekend or a week, see some tapes and work on certain things.... I'm just saying
