You have a point. I just don't like the idea that Cotto has to put his title on the line and also has to agree at a catchweight and generally comply with whatever team Pacquiao want, just because Pac is the bigger draw. But yeah, if he wants the fight and Pac doesn't agree to it unless the title is on the line, then he has to say yes. Still, I think it's just wrong.

BTW, I don't get how Cotto's title is "meaningless". If it is so, then why Pac would care for such a title?

 

Cotto himself doesn't think much of the title because he's apparently willing to vacate it before agreeing to defend it at 145. Nothing good other than saving the sanctioning fees comes out of vacating the title, which btw would surely be covered by the returns yielded if the title was used to expand on the fight promotion. However if the title was on the line, it would inevitably create a bigger event which yields more money for both fighters. If he were to be successful in defending the belt then I'm sure the people would view his title as legitimate thus strengthening his champagne as the premiere 147 lber.

Yeah, I get your point. No need for us to dance circles around the subject, but if Pac wants the title to be on the line, it must be of some value. And in any case, Cotto beat an elite welterweight to get that title, so it's not meaningless no matter what he does with it.

does pac care for the title? did you know that pac didnt care whether its a title fight or not? he stated it on his column some days back. he wanted a good fight and of course MONEY! if the title be on the line he doesnt mind paying the sanction fee. what about cotto?

"meaningless" does not necessarilly equate literraly. try to be objective. meaningless on this issue could be not as prestigious as say WBC,WBA,IBF belts.
