I think Cotto got his confidence back after Margarito 2,but after the beating he took,he changed psychologically and lost confidence,it slowed down his style of fighting as welll, him being a relentless body puncher..
There is video of Roach saying how his camp will fight Cotto, because they even says he is a damaged fighter and not the same.

For one Floyd retired after Hatton, when he could have had a huge payday and fought Cotto "and maybe the only legitimate person people can say Floyd ducked" Floyd after record numbers with Oscar could have fought Cotto, instead of,or at least before Hatton..

Now with Cotto-Pac the excuse is "weight drained" but I do not see this as an excuse, but rather a fact... If the 2 pounds was meaningless,or one pound "Why would Roach ONLY take the fight at a catch weight"? This alone proves that Roach wanted a weaker fighter for Manny to fight, same reason he originally wanted Mosley at 142!

Now I already see it "Pac beats any version of Cotto" well that is just b.s. because pre-Margarito he was relentless and pressed the attack.. Even when dazed, almost KO'd he still moved forward and returned punishment "Torres,Corley,Judah" he was seriously hurt and stuck it out...

Had Manny fought that version,he would have received punishment to the body, when Manny was on the ropes playing the "rope a dope" Cotto was passive, and even at that Manny said he was hurting... We saw Antonio dish some damage to the body and Pac being in trouble for a few seconds..

Cotto did not box or apply smart pressure,he was too defensive, the Cotto of old put defense on the back burner and forged ahead...Possible KO or at least decision if Manny fought a healthy Cotto..

As for Floyd you saw how he dealt with Oscar, who applied pressure, but can not do any damage, and lets face it was not the Oscar that fought Mosley "Even though I think Floyd might edge out prime Oscar, toss up for me"

A Cotto at that time would have gave Floyd hell, and I don't think Floyd had the power to daze him like Judah,Hatton gave Floyd hell, now compare that to Cotto at the time..

Even if he was,you guys forget that all the times he has been rocked,he came back and won by ko or tko.... A fight is not determined on a guy being "dazed" it's the final verdict..

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with the OP, the cotto of old would have been ko'd sooner. When cotto fought manny he kept getting hurt with counters but when he back peddled manny had a hard time catching him but manny would always hurt him when they traded. The problem is that manny is all wrong for cotto, he is too fast and with his angles he would always catch cotto. if you see the tape you will notice that every time cotto jabed manny would counter with the straight left which in my opinion is a better punch.

I'm a hardcore Cotto fan but Pac and Floyd are simply better fighters than Cotto, and Cotto has nothing to be ashamed of cause he is one of the top 10 fighters probably of the last decade and he did some damage to Floyd and Pac when he fought them.....

Cotto of the Judah fight would've done better against Pacquiao (as he basically trained himself that fight), but worse against Mayweather IMO. The improvements he made with Steward and then Diaz helped him a ton against Mayweather, even with his declined athleticism, speed, and mileage from his difficult fights and beatings in his two losses.

He's simply not on that level. He's a good B level fighter who had a great promotional company behind him.
