Cotto to do for Pacquaio what Mugabi did for Hagler

    .......shorten his career, dramatically.

The major difference being that while 'The Beast' extended Hagler to lose valiantly late on (Hagler was pretty much 'shot' after this war) Cotto will starch Manny late on, after another bruising encounter.

Cotto's just too big, strong and powerful to lose this one.

Manny will probably have a 'soft' fight after to ease back in after this one, then get smashed by another 'real' fighter to finally call it quits sometime next spring.

    Just you wait and see.........

I think if Manny can get out of the first 3 or 4 rounds then he has a chance of stopping Cotto late on. We have seen in his last few fights that he starts to tire around the 8th or 9th round and starts to fight on the back foot. Manny will punch all night and this could play into his hands. That said if I was betting my house on it I would have to go with Cotto. If Manny loses I wouldn't be surprised if he steps down to fight Valero.

My mind feels Cotto should be able to pull it off.

But I thought the same thing with Hatton at first, before I thought about it a day before the fight. I think Pac is on a roll right now and isn't going to be beaten.

Cotto, additionally, has trouble dealing with speed, as well as straight shots, and always has.

cotto does not have trouble with speed. if that were the case, he would have lost to zab, shane and malignaggi!

    No chance.

If Pacquaio wins, GBP will convince him that he's indestructible and put him in with another 'name,' maybe Mosley.

If he loses, (which he will) there'll be all the usual post fight excuses about bad preparation / some mystery virus two weeks before fight time etc etc., and he'll need to seek redemption.

Consequently, the ease-back-confidence-builder, followed by the final bout Spring 2010....

IMO just like morales (first bout) and Marquez (all bouts) have given pacman hell with their instinct and good boxing abilities to do things like counter Pacman when he wanted to activate his storm of punches. Cotto can do the same as well with his good skills to attack when he senses the momentum of the fight changing. Also I think cotto is going to be big and strong enough to handle Pacman punches whether he gets hit or with his great timing. I think cotto might be able to aviod Pacmans punches more than Marquez and Morales have done with his jab, timing, decent speed, and blows to the body.

Pacquiao doesnt have too many fights left anyway. Before this they were even saying 2-3!!.. Dont forget to mention pacquiao was stopped early on in hes career and seemed to come back pretty well...

and i dont really agree at all with anything you said anyway

Cotto's size is one thing that concerns me. Cotto is a fighter i have enjoyed watching and his boxing something to be admired. Pacman can not be accused of cherry picking anymore can he?

No matter what the result this will be a ******* of a fight and im looking forward to seeing it!:thumbsup

When thinking about they turning down Mosley at super drained weight of 140, I just can't believe Roach really thinks Cotto is THAT vulnerable. At 145, Mosley would most likely beat Pacquiao using speed, physical force, pressure and a lot of power, walking through PacMan's punches to chop him down on the inside. Still, if Pac chose to box beautifully, he could pull it off once again. I understand that in Roach's book Cotto is much more vulnerable with chin, stamina, cut and more or less defensive issues, but Cotto was able to land some nasty stuff on Shane on the inside which is a pretty bad news for Pacquiao. I think Roach, very important in the opponent selection part, is underestimating Miguel a bit here. On skill vs. skill level it's not a really hard fight to pick, you gotta go with Pac based on the combination of speed, power, great movement and accuracy, but no one knows what happens if Cotto lands or starts to put on real welterweight pressure. Don't underestimate pressure and physical factors, it's part of the game. Cotto is much stronger and PacMan still got caught by a few clean shots in R2 vs. Hatton, so he's not exactly Pernell Whitaker on the defensive.

Anyways, it's a great fight but with a potential risk of a bad beating for both fighters, and if Pac gets it, well, a WW weighing 160 pounds on fight night can do a LOT of damage.

lol pacquiao has said he wants to retire soon. He said he wants to fight maybe 2 more times at the most. Cotto is one and the winner of mayweather-marquez the other.

Amir Khan will probably be feasting on the carcas of Pacquaio in 2013.........

I can hear "Legend Slayer!" quoted by Frank Warren right now!
