GTFO my *****, when were these guys ever an option for him??.....Williams?? After he got whooped by Cottos son u really think he was gonna turn around and fight him, he was never an option, just like Tzyu.....Gatti? Be releastic this fight was never an option if it was Bob would of made it, cuz any1 can tell u it would of been an easy payday to beat Gatti at 140, and if recall Hatton opted to fight Maussa over Cotto, he's never wanted any part of him.....so outside if Fmj who decided he'd rather retire then fight Cotto that leaves Mosley who already whooped and Margarito who's lost all credibililty as a fighter

    so cut the bull****

How can Cotto be a cherrypicker when Top Rank picks all of his opponents for him? And whether or not he's a cherry picker has nothing to with the opposition of different fighters.

This is irrelevant. My original point was that you needed to be able to punch and take a punch to beat Cotto. Someone countered by saying that there are very few fighters that possess these attributes. I was then asked to name some fighters that posses these attributes and I did. When these guys were available to Cotto is irrelevant to the argument

He could've easily fought him after Williams beat Cotto's daddy. In fact, Arum remarked that he would consider matching Cotto with Williams if Williams beat Margo in an exciting fight. Cotto could be fighting Williams now. Instead, Top Rank waited to he vacated his belt and now Cotto is fighting for that vacated belt.

Before Mayweather destroyed Gatti, many were under the impression that Cotto would lose to Gatti.

This is irrelevant anyway, and doesn't counter any point that I made.

Floyd was very much active in 2006 and 2007. When Cotto came up to Welterweight, he went right after a vacated belt instead of getting in a position to be Floyd's mando. Never once did he express any really public interest in fighting Mayweather either.

Whooped? That was a close fight that could've gone either way. How come Top Rank isn't interested in a rematch?

Margarito destroyed Cotto. I don't see how Cotto getting pushed to the limit against Mosely and getting destroyed by Margo proves that he doesn't have trouble with guys who can punch and who can take a punch.

I generally like you as a poster Monstar. However, you're the one spewing bull**** here. I think you're affection for Cotto is preventing you from being objective. I only see two guys who can punch with solid chins that Cotto faced. One guy gave him a lot of trouble, the other guy beat him into submission. These are the type of fighters that Top Rank generally has been hesitant match Cotto with. That's not a knock on Cotto as much as it is a compliment to how well Top Rank has managed Cotto.

Seems someones jealous of the attention Margaritos getting from top rank. Props to Arum for sticking with his loyal fighters

If you can please re-iterate your points that would be great because from my understanding you said that Cotto should be thankful for guiding his career with good looking opponents that are good on paper but as of no real threat.

Again...those are strong implications of cherry picking.

I countered by saying that was mostly Arum's fault. You said it yourself. Cotto fights whoever they put in front of him. In that case, would you say that if he were under the hands of GBP he'd still be fighting "non threatening" fighters?

You said he needs to face someone who can punch and take a punch...Then you said Mosley took Cotto to his limit...who wouldn't be taken to the limit with Mosley @ WW? You said that Margo beat him to a pulp...I'm not going to bring out the loaded gloves argument, but cmon now. Margo ate enough punches to nullify that ridiculous statement. You say it like Margo looked fine afterwards...his face was pretty ****ed up too. It was a battle and one that seemed one sided half way through.

All my points are relevant to the argument but you'd rather keep the argument in a narrow one-sided viewpoint that is your own...

If I misinterpreted what you said...then by all means...what was your point again?

Truth be told Cotto was on course to leave Arum when he would make the fight with Mayweather..Cotto seems like a stand up dude, and he knew that the offer was there for him to fight Floyd and I believe that is the reason that he never came out and said "I want to fight Floyd" Couple that with the fact that Cotto didnt want to fight jennings and know Arum is being a chump with the Margo thing...Cotto is already gone..I hope things work out for Arum with Margo cuz this time next year he may be the only elite fighter that he has...I dont think that Pavlik is very happy, and Pac wanted to leave last year.

That's pretty much the gist of it. Margo and Mosley were the only fighters that Cotto faced that were a legit threat to beat Cotto. I guess Torres could be counted, but he was a late replacement. If you can name some other fighters, I would appreciate it.

If that's what you want to call it. However, many top fighters do it.

Who knows? Maybe he would've faced bigger threats. Then again, he may have lost some of those fights early on and it would've damaged his career.

I never said this. I would like for to point out where I wrote this. What I wrote is that the ability to punch and the ability to take a punch are essential assets if you want to beat Cotto

Mosley is a top class fighter. There's no shame to being in a close fight with him. However, that doesn't change the fact that the fight was close.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Cotto's face busted up at the end of the fight? Didn't Cotto take two knees in the 11th before his corner threw in the towel? I don't care how many punches Margo ate, Cotto sustained a lot of damage in that fight.

No, that's the way you interpreted it. Me saying Margo beagt Cotto to a pulp is an indication of how much damage Margo inflicted upon Cotto

Incorrect. The resume of other fighters is not relevant to the idea that Top Rank has carefully, and wisely managed Cotto.

    You got it in the beginning of your post. Here it is;

"Cotto should be thankful for guiding his career with good looking opponents that are good on paper but as of no real threat."

Besides, Mosley and Margo, this is Cotto's career; solid to good fighters who allow Cotto to gain experience/paper titles but who were not a serious threat to beat him. Now, if you want to counter this. Start naming some other fighters who were a serious threat to beat Cotto. Don't bring up other fighter's resumes, stick to Cotto.

And that's whats wrong with boxing...but that's a whole other can of worms. Cotto might very well be capable of beating all the names, but we'll never know because of Arum's overly tenative business management.

That's the risk all the greats took and after they took them...they made it in the history books. It's some all truly great fighters must do.

"To beat Cotto you have to be able to punch and take a punch. Pretty much everyone Cotto has faced has lacked at least one of those attributes. He has built up a good resume by beating handpicked fighters that are tailor made for him."

Sure you never said it...but the implication is there...you DUCKED the statement :yep:good

A win is a win...and it was a good one.

And so did Margo. It was a war. Wars that gave both fighters battle scars.

While ignoring the damage that was done to Margo...how did you put it again..."Cotto's Daddy" was it...I would hardly call Margo Cotto's daddy. He won, but took a lot of punishment himself.

Again you just finished ****in' saying how many fighters "handpick" opponents...so it only goes in line with bringing in other people's resumes. Almost all fighters live off a single fight and solid opposition. If Cotto wants to surpass this idea of being a fighter living off of solid opposition he's going to need to leave Arum's greedy ass. WHICH WAS MY ORIGINAL POINT!

Good, Top Rank doesn't deserve this kid. Cotto doesn't need to work these people. He's honorable, direct, and a consumate professional - everything that POS Bob Arum isn't. Glad to hear it. :thumbsup
