Let me start off by saying that I do believe Margarito was problaby using loaded gloves when he fought Cotto for the many reasons stated by professionals and even boxing fans. So now moving on, Margarito was asked in a 24/7 if he used loaded gloves which he said no, for obvious reasons, he won't admit it. Thing is Margarito made a good point and said that if Cotto thinks he used loated wraps why did he sign the contract. Which brings me to my question....can a boxer, in this case Cotto, refuse to his promotional company a fight which he does not wish to take without breaking the contract? Or is a boxer strictly under contract and has to fight whoever his promoter says? And I really hope Cotto leaves Top Rank! **** that fat greedy fat ****!
Me too, I hope cotto joins gbp after this, there are plenty of interesting fights there for miguel. There is nobody left at toprank, I have no interest in pac 2, allthough I do believe arum would use it to extend his contract with tr.
Should Cotto somehow win tomorrow night... Best believe MC is re-signing w/Top Rank. (And Chavez Jr. will feast on him next...)
Ooopsey he resigned? For how many years haha. Cotto would fit well with the Golden Boy roster. I think no one on esb including me likes Booby Arum; the don king of the lightweights
Yeah you would think Bob Arum would offer Miguel Cotto big money fight to move to 160 so he can get outboxed by the heavier JCC. And then JCC gets automatically shot to stardom.
I don't know... I fear he hasn't brought much power up with him as it is... I don't know what he could do at 160. Honestly, I want to see Cotto go back down to Welter; I feel like that is his prime weight.
Okay let me rephrase the question: Can a boxer (in this case Cotto) refuse to his promoter a fight he does not wish to take without breaking the contract? Or is he obligated to fight whom his promoter finds better for both of them? This question is regarding Margarito's answer to Cotto telling him that if he thinks he used illegal wraps why did he sign the contract. We all know Cotto signed because of Arum but could he have refused the fight? :?
Unless Cotto's current contract with Top Rank stipulates he has to fight a certain fighter, he has the right to turn down any fight presented to him by Top Rank. Bob Arum says Cotto didn't want this fight, because he didn't want Margarito to make any money off of him. But he said once Top Rank presented him with a lucrative offer (5 million plus a percentage of the PPV), Miguel decided to go along with it. Still, there was nothing contractually requiring Miguel to go through with the Margarito fight.
