Couldnt find a way? If so then you have a poor gameplan, if he wasnt going to throw the hook to the body then he should have jab to the body at least. You have to find a way to put body shots on a pressure fighter. Period

I think it was the great Lennox Lewis who said that fighters with great chin usually do not take body shots very well. I can not think of any scientific explanations nor anything to do with body anatomy but his observation is actually pretty accurate. cases in point:

    DLH
    Morales
    Tua
    Holyfield (against Toney)

Who knows, Margo could be one of those kind.

Cotto fought a damn good fight, he did everything is his power to win, including landing body shots. Margarito was just too much. I dont agree with people that say Cotto had a poor gameplan, his gameplan was just fine, the only thing was that Margarito showed imence durability which you just can't account for. A fighter expects his opponents to tire and weaken as he lands his shots, Margarito simply didn't follow that formula.

    Right.

I'm absolutely certain that Cotto expected Margarito to show some sign of wear. I know I did. But that just never came.

He was doing everything fine, the only problem that wont make Cotto win against other superstars is when he take those stupid breaks sitting on the ropes. Come on!!>..hes a super athlete, with super natural boxing skills, why he cant stay in the middle of the ring for 3mins x 12 rounds......a boxer like him should be able to do it IMO....i think he will never pass from the level he is.

That's what I was thinking to. He says he couldn't get to Margarito's body, but how hard could it have been when the guy's standing in front of you the whole fight?

The only fight that i saw Margarito with that kind of struggle was on the Santos fight. I have seen Santos in person and hes HUGE for a 154 lbs, he has a great chin, good boxing backgroud and a huge tank. I have also seen Cotto and he looks like a midget in person. I knew it was a missmatch at least on the physical strength, resistance and heart. Margo was a huge favorite on those terms. But i have to admit i was very surprised of how good Cotto dominated the first rounds. The only problem that Cottos has is the ropes. Maybe he needs to sparr on a none ropes ring.

Going to the body when Margarito's punches are coming in from all directions is simply impossible. That leaves Cotto's head too open.

Reason why Cotto resorted to giving counter headshots while trying to move away from the raging Margarito. Margarito beat Cotto to the PUNCH in giving body shots reason why Margarito received a lot of clean counter headshots . . . and the gamble works for him because of his solid chin.

Yeah I agree with this. Cotto just wanted to stay away from Margo's bombs. But he just couldn't hold the boxing and moving up for 12 rounds.
So imo their gamplan was not that bad, he just failed to execute it until the 12th (6 rounds more).

I still can't believe that Cotto (as tough as he is) took a knee at the second knockdown without taking a punch. Actually that just ment ''no I've had enough''. Shocking.

Very true but, we all know that Cotto on his entire carrer hasnt been in the ring with a man that big like Margo, add to that Margo could be on his prime.

Margo offered his chin all night and protected his body. I think it's save to say that Margo's only worry or concern was his body, he trusted his chin 110%. Also body punches leave Cotto open for a counter. Cotto had a good game plan, if he had better stamina and could box like that for 12 rds, he would have won on pts.
