very good point. a lot of people make too big a deal on margarito's punch output. but they dont consider the percentage of punches he lands.

what is better? A man who throws 20 wild punches, but only lands 5 or a man who throws 10 accurate punches, but only lands 5.

Like you said, Cotto doesnt need to waste his punches. He is very mature and patient in the ring.

I would assume it's fairly obvious that when going up against someone who's far more skilled, technical, versatile, accurate, fast, and just overall on another level, most aren't very successful.

Cotto by stoppage in a pretty one-sided fight after Cotto gets a feel for Margo and starts to land accurate power shots to the body and head by the early to mid rounds, setting him up for the kill by the 8th or 9th.

Margarito doesn't have a great jab so I don't understand why he would pick one up now, and it seems that a lot of you belief in him is based on this jab of his. You say he throws hard punches from lots of different angles-- the problem is that these angles come from widely thrown punches, its not as if his body is moving-- we aren't talking Arron Pryor here. Finally, Cotto is better than Margo, so it cant just be said that a good big man > good little man.

I do appreciate you taking the opposite stance and sticking by your boy. This is the biggest scrap of the year for me. Can't wait.

But then again, the fact Margo flurries may help him on the scorecards; well at least on the principle of aggression. That's just a thought.

that's true. the judges may score unlanded punches. but Cotto wont be there for him to just land all day. I think Cotto has this fight hands down.

    Here another big thing fellas.

A lot of people often say that fighter x is faster, bigger, stronger, quicker, etc....(basically they have nearly every physical advantage there is)

But then people make a counter argument that it's not how big, fast, or strong you are. What matters is how smart you are.

That is what Roger likes to say about Floyd ive noticed.

Anyways, in this case Cotto is faster, more agile, more gifted, more technically sound, better puncher, and HE'S SMARTER.

so logically speaking, margarito simply cant win unless he lands some incredible punch (that's why boxing is soooooooooooo great)

the ONLY advantage Marg might have over Cotto is his Chin. I dont think that is enough to say he will win.

I think the logical result is when Michael Buffer says, "...and all to the winner by unanimous decision...and still WBA Welterweight Champion of the world, Miguel Angel Cotto."

But a KO will solidify his status and possibly move him up to #2 in the P4P list after Manny.

Okay, but how would you rate Cotto's chin as a welterweight since moving up from jr. welterweight where he was rocked by Corley and Torres?

Honestly, I think his chin is just fine at this point in his career. Zab caught him with a monster upper cut and it barely stunned him.

Corley caught him perfectly on the temple(not the chin). b/c he was weight drained, it probably affected his equlibrium. Torres, while he was virtual unknown, the man still had plenty of power, as was evident by his record at the time.

but again, i think his chin has held up quite nicely at 147. the reason i say marg's chin MAY be better is b/c i have to give him the benefit of the doubt b/c he hasnt truly been rocked like Cotto (even if Cotto has reason in being weight drained)

Margarito does have a good jab. He wouldn't have been able to setup so many knockouts on the right hand if he didn't have a good jab.

Margarito also is not always wide with his punches. He has a lead right hand that is very sneaky, as well as a counter uppercut. Clottey was really the only guy recently to make Margarito miss. And that's only because Clottey fights out of a shell defense. It also had alot to do with Margarito's ankle and how much he favored it throughout the fight. Williams, Santos, Lujan, Cintron and many others have been hit cleanly and often by Margarito.

Cotto will be in that second group.

    :good

Honestly I know I am biased in favor of Margarito. But I do see a chance for Cotto to win. It certainly won't be by brutalizing Margarito. That is a fool's bet.

This indicates just how much heart Cotto has and how far down he will dig to win a fight, retain a title, and remain undefeated.
