All I can say that if he wins against Margarito, I am ready to crown him the undisputed welterweight champion. Margo lost to Williams who lost to Quintana and Cotto beat Quintana. Grant it, Williams beat Quintana in a rematch but Cotto beat Quintana on the first go-round. A Cotto-Williams fight would remove any doubt that he is the best. Heck, he might as well kill the young Berto too.

you're right. i like berto, but Cotto would probably kill him at this point. in a year or 2, it would be a good fight.

As has been said before. Cotto, the more technically sound and intelligent boxer should take this one out. Margarito, beeing the great warrior that he is should never be discounted. That sneaky uppercut and straight right will keep him in the game all night. People saying that cotto won't hurt margo are just plain ignorant. Yes margo can take a lot of punishment and actually smiles in the face of an opponent that has landed a nice blow to the chin, but he does swell when hit enough, which is what will happen with cotto jabbing him at will. But the punishment that margo should be worried about is to the body. Thosel eft diggs of cotto's to the midsection are something quite evil and destructive. As I said before, I'm backin my man cotto all the way but props to both men for taking a fight that everyone else in the devision has been avoiding. What a fight this is gonna be. :happy :happy :happy

Just a random thought, but has any of Cotto's previous 4 defenses of his WBA welterweight title been mandatory defenses or are they all voluntary defenses? Margarito won the IBF version of the same title but vacated to have this fight instead of the mandatory against Clottey.

I believe Urkal was a mandatory fight. I swear I will never understand how bums get mandatory title shots.

Margarito is gonna punish Cotto. He will beat him up and knock him out late. Cotto is one tough SOB, though, and I expect that while he will hit the deck several times before succumbing, he will eventually be knocked out.

i agree.... Cotto by decision , anyone who thinks Margarito will KO cotto, is damn near silly.......his hands are too slow, cotto's going to be landing first all night long.....and if by some odd reason cotto does take a heavy blow, he has the ability to box his way out of it.....he has too many options, while margarito's just too predictable and too slow....it's gonna be a replay of Cotto vs. Pinto, only i doubt margarito will get TKO'd........although it isnt too unbelievable to think so

Cotto TKO. Mosley was probably a tough fight for Cotto, a quicker more skilled opponent with an even better chin.

Any Margarito fans willing to take an avatar bet?

There have been many posts and i haven't really read them all so my apology if this has been written before. But lets not forget that although Cotto beat Bazan convincingly Bazan did give him a tough fight, and another measuring stick could be Torres who gave Cotto some serious trouble. I think the key here is not just about what Margarito can not do on the outside , but how frequently will he be able to get on the inside and be effective, perhaps he will only need to be effective a couple of times to really get Cotto in trouble. I'm just voicing out the other side of the quarter because i fear that because so many people are favoring Cotto (including me) that he doesn't get
his deserved credit for a very tough fight.

Cotto is much stronger at welterweight though, his chin was weakened as he had to drain his weight to get down to 140. His chin will be stronger at 147.

It's a classic highlight, i know Cotto's chin is better at 147 and so is his stamina, but do you really think Margo is not capable of hurting him at 147???
