Cotto V Williams This generation's answer to Hagler v Hearns

I don't see Cotto moving up to 160, let alone 168. 154 is a stretch. Cotto has that stocky frame and I think he's best off staying at welterweight.

There's also not really any stylistic comparisons between Cotto-Williams and Hagler-Hearns.

This generation has had better fights than Hagler-Hearns, only they weren't mega fights that even appealed to the mainstream like Hagler-Hearns did (and Cotto-Williams wouldn't).

 

Quintana turned up with a smart game plan and executed it exceptionally well, timing counters when Williams lunged in sloppily.

Williams wouldn't do that against Cotto, and has improved anyway..... I just see Cotto eating a lot of leather before being stopped. His stamina is very suspect, and is at his best when HE dictates the pace. Margarito had the pace set to perfection pretty much throughout, and his output was sufficient to break Cotto down.

I don't buy the loaded gloves thing in this instance, people ought to just admit that Margo peaked mentally and physically for that fight and won fair and square.

 

Would love to see this. If Williams stays @ 147 its bound to eventually happen.
I also think Cotto has a better chance than most think. All it takes is 1 left hook to the ribs & Cotto's a good, smart boxer

Cotto backs from no one, if Arum asks him to fight Williams he will and next week, I'm not denying that. Still in boxing styles make fights and Williams' style is just wrong for Cotto as I explained in my previous post.

It would be a hell of a fight and maybe even competitive in the early rounds but it will slowly go Williams' way, the same Williams who in EVERY fight proves he has stamina to go 15 rounds throwing over 100 per round. Cotto's stamina isn't that great and he tends to wait and counter, waiting to counter someone like Williams will be VERY hard. Williams has the size, reach, speed, chin, power(might be even), skill, movement and even defense advantage(s). Just a nightmare for Cotto and I love Cotto.

it doesnt have to do anything because quintana and cotto are to extremely different fighters. Im just saying that cotto is a far beter fighter than quintana and that id=f quitana did what he did against pw in their first fight, cotto could do better than people give him credit for. Like i said a couple of times it will surely not be easy as pw is a freak fighter xd, he really is awesome love his style. I just dont see an easy fight for him against cotto but yea cotto would be the underdog in the fight nontheless

 

Sorry for getting in between the discussion but I'm really getting sick of people mentioning the Quintana fight. Williams fought like pure **** in that fight and learned from his mistake, after all he proved it in the rematch.

 

Cotto isn't a counter puncher though..... Quintana was able to have success for exactly that reason in the 1st fight.

Don't think he will in a major fight like this, major fights are what Williams is desperately trying to get there's just no way in hell will show up in poor condition.

Quintana was a guy who got iced against Cotto when Williams got to him so I don't really blame Williams for fighting terrible, then again I would expect him to take all fights seriously as he's proving after the Quintana experience.
