Cotto vs Berto might happen???

Berto has to fight his mandatory Collazo, Cotto is rumored to be fighting Cintron next instead. I don't understand why it's taking so long for any announcement on who Cotto might fight next, nothing confirmed out there yet. Same goes for Margarito who was rumored to fight Shane but now reports claim that it might not happen.

 

How many times have we seen in boxing a good or even elite fighter get caught by a punch they never saw and consequently they get knocked down? Happened many times in Tito's career. As they say it's the punches that you don't see that hurt you the most. It's these kinds of punches that Berto is able to land on his opponents and it was this kind of a punch that put him down against Rivera. Berto was not only winning the fight up until his knockdown, he was dominating the fight and continued to do so for the rest of the match. Berto had never shown previously and afterwards any evidence what so ever of a shaky chin. So I ask you what constitutes a shaky chin in your opinion? Does Calzaghe have a weak chin because he got caught by a flash knockdown against Hopkins? Does JMM have a weak chin considering he's been caught by Pac on numerous occasions but otherwise has a good beard? As I have stated before Berto should not be criticized because he has yet to be tested against a renown puncher and until he is, one can't make assumptions. It would be like saying before Khan's first knockdown that he had an iron chin. That's no bases because a test was yet to be given.

 

I would love to see this matchup and IMO it should be made ASAP. i'm ready to see Berto step up in class and Cotto is just the fighter to do it against. Berto will cause Cotto problems and Cotto will do the same. This is one of the best fights that can be made at 147.

 

So, you are telling me that Paulie has more skills than Berto? You also have to realise that this would be the fastest fighter...also with pop that Cotto has faced...this fight would be 50/50 IMO.

 

Heart?? He got up when knocked down...Cotto went down and QUIT! Talk about heart

Listen I am a big Cotto fan as I obviously a big Berto fan but in this debate about who has the more questionable chin, it's clearly Cotto and it's him by default. As I've stated many times now your bases is completed flawed because the only example you can point out questioning berto's chin is a flash knockdown. He was never hurt, stunned, or really ever bothered by any of Rivera's punches before and after the knockdown. This also applies to all of Berto's opponent as there aren't any examples of him ever being hurt. Cotto on the other hand has been hurt, stunned, and in trouble on a few occasions against different fighters. In fact as Zavy pointed out Cotto was in trouble against Corley who was considered to be very light puncher. And it wasn't as though Corley caught him with one shot, Cotto was bothered by numerious punches. I will say the the jury is still out on Berto because of his lack of quality opposition but that is no reeson to fault him and lable him with a suspect chin.

 

Way to selectively acknowledge my reply. :-( My central point was that there is a lack of evidence to support the theory that Berto has a suspect chin. I gave examples of other fighters like JMM and Calzaghe who both have good chins but have both been down and I think the examples of them going down that I provided are comparable to Berto KD against Rivera. I also pointed out that to say Berto has a suspect chin because he hasn't fought a proven puncher is like saying Khan had an iron chin before he fought a proven puncher. Your point has no bases until Berto does just like labeling Khan with an iron chin before fighting anyone with a descent punch. I will continue to dismiss Berto's KD against Rivera as a credible example for the reasons I've already stated and thus there are no examples.

 

It doesn't matter what Berto lacks dude, Andre Berto is NOT Alfonso Gomez. Jermain Taylor lacked a hell of a alot more against Bernard Hopkins and did any of that matter? No it did not. Berto would give Cotto fits because he's to fast and is a big welterweight. Miguel Cotto is pretty descent in speed but let's face it, Berto is a better combination puncher than Mosley of 07 and Berto is bigger than Zab.

Fact is Berto is pretty much just as big as Cotto and does a great job letting his hands go. Berto is scrappy with tremendous hand speed and will make Cotto think. Zab didn't throw enough punches, Berto will. And speaking of thinking and smarts, what makes Cotto this brainiac you make him out to be?:smoke Last time I saw Cotto didn't not have a plan B for Margarito. Cotto appeared CLUELESS to be honest.

Did he have a plan B when Shane figured him out? Nope he backed off and did not engage in a fight that appeared to be a draw. I'm not saying he's stupid but he's no brainiac. Sorry dude, Cotto is a good fighter and made a bit of fan out of me in that Margo fight but if you wanna label a fighter a thinker and with ring smarts, you credit that to the man in my avatar:good
