i would love to see this fight. i would take cotto indefinitely, but it would definitely be a war as cotto would force berto to fight.

Berto was beyond awful... all that hugging was disgusting. Cotto would break him in half.

Cotto beats Berto down, Stoppage mid rounds.

if cotto gets by clottey-who I have been pickinig, but am now getting close to calling it even, cotto will beat berto. Cotto is a really good fighter (although I am not really a fan), and is a top guy whilst Berto is a good fighter.

Prety much. Berto is not on Cotto's level right now.

Cotto would definately be doing on number on Berto during the clinches...unlike Urango.

Cotto would be able to stop Berto. Cotto is too experienced and too much of a good combination body puncher and boxer to lose to a guy that looks he'll struggle at the elite level in Berto.

Cotto wins but it is tougher than most here are gonna say.

Berto is fast and has a good lead right hand, not a ton of power but it is very fast. Cotto would be susseptable to this punch but I think as the fight drags on Cotto wears him down, as Berto loses his speed edge he gets stoped late.

Cotto would have to avoid being tied up, I wonder if Berto's fight against Urango is indicitive of a new style, lead right then hold?

Andre B is very skilled, but not ready for Cotto yet.

Not even close to the Chavez/Taylor fight. Taylor was a combination puncher Berto likes to fight one shot at a time. Cotto is a boxer-puncher while Chavez was a brawler. As far a who would win I think Cotto got this because he's a more complete fighter and he's more experienced than Berto.

I'm a huge fan of both of these guys but Berto would not stand a chance against Cotto and the fight is not very similar to Chavez/Taylor. Besides one guy being black and one guy being hispanic there's not much similar, the styles aren't similar at all.

I watched the fight with Berto and Urango. First, it clearly appeared that Berto was trying to make use of the Ricky Hatton style of punching and clinching, which beat Urango. If you looked at the tale of the tape, Urango was not inferior to Berto in size and also had a punchers chance of winning.
I agree that Berto should take on at least one guy at the Judah/Cintron level before fighting the elites. However, what Berto needs is to have a plan. He looks like he relies on his heart and physical attributes to win fights. However, he likely needs to change his corner to go to that next level. For example, it was quite correct to compare him to Jermaine Taylor. Taylor would have easily beaten Froch if his corner instructed him to cruise through that last round. Or, if they did, that Taylor listened.
If you look at the great ones, they did not go out and just try to knock out a good opponent. They studied the opponent and exploited a weakness. Some, yes, did get lucky with knockout power. But most used a plan. Oscar DeLaHoya vs Trinidad was another extreme, whereby Oscar should have been instructed to cruise the last round, not the last few rounds and he too would have won the fight.
I agree that Berto, if not setup with a tune up fight sooner, should step to either the loser of Cotto/Clottey or Quintana. If he emerges from that, he should go for the big money. No one will fight him because the welters are all about who draws the money. He needs a notable win to get that.
