Just a couple of reasons right here. He's not the same. He has no defense. He's a front runner meaning he's good for 5 to 6 rounds before backpeddling still getting caught and he has always had confidence issues.I see Berto landing uppercuts and body shots just like Margarito. I doubt Bob makes this fight to begin with but Berto isn't no Chavez Jr or Yuri foreman.

You're right. Chavez Jr. and Foreman are probably better than Berto. He's fought Quintana, who put him on his ass. Urango came up to welterweight for the first time and fought Berto in a fight Berto held more than John Ruiz in. He traded rounds with Collazo and was deducted a point for excessive holding. He handed Steve Forbes his seventh loss...

Cotto has fought 17 world title fights, losing only 2.

Please you make Cotto sound like an ATG. He's only a 3 time champion in 3 weight classes. Two of those being Micheal Jennings and Yuri Foreman who are both no name cans. Chavez Jr. is nothing but the ultimate of cab drivers and tomato cans who needed steroids. Cotto isn't the same fighter. You speak of 17 world title fights but answer me how many champs did he actually beat to get there titles. He's the all time vacant title champ,no doubt.

Jennings and Foreman are no name cans, but Berto is some proven elite monster?

If it weren't for the tragedy in Haiti, Berto would have long since been KTFO by old Mosley by now. :deal

Berto won the vacant title against the highly regarded Miguel Angel Rodriguez, who was coming off win over the 11-6 Jerome Ellis, who he lost 3-4 rounds to.

Berto obviously has more natural talent than them but that doesn't mean much when he has intangibles and bad habits working against him as he does.

Talking strictly of accomplishment...he's captured a vacant welterweight title with a win over Micky freaking Rodriguez and then defended it four times (twice against light welterweights!).

Yeah, Foreman can arguably be said to have the greater single accomplishment than anything Berto's done yet (dominating Daniel Santos to win a legitimate, non-vacant world title).

    Simple answer:

Jennings no (but he isn't a can), Foreman yes.

Both men are Top Rank cans who's roles have been equivalent to Golden Johnson when Margarito lost and needed a quick belt. So is the role Jennings and Foreman played for Cotto . HBO doesn't hold neither Foreman or Jennings in regards they do with Berto. Bob doesn't want any true risk outside of Top Rank screwing up his money anyways.

Berto has good offensive weapons to go along with some pop but he gets hit too much for my liking... cotto's jab will stop berto in his tracks, while using his body attack. cotto by ud or late stoppage

Berto should have been disqualified in his last four fights for excessive holding. He was knocked down by Cosme Rivera with 10 seconds left in the round. During the rest he suddenly needed a new glove and got much more than a minute's rest to recuperate. He got hit on the ear by Quintana and went down and then bitched about it. This is the same dude who blamed women for domestic abuse on twitter after Valero killed his wife. Berto was disqualified in the US Olympic trials for losing his temper and throwing his opponent, so he jumped ship to Haiti.

You're comparing this guy to the same Yuri Foreman who would rather fight on one leg than back down against a puncher like Cotto? We're talking about a Russian Jew who joined an Arab gym when his new country wouldn't let him box because of his race.

Foreman is more proven, more skilled, a better sportsman, and conducts himself outside the ring much better than Andre Berto, who in my opinion has only proved himself to be a whiny little girl who wants people to tell him he looks like Reggie Bush.

SO, GOW, tell me buddy boy, is Cotto too light skinned 4 ur taste of a fighter, because all u r saying is strictly nonsense... it's alright...typical.... anyways, even though the vast majority gives it to Cotto, this thread shows how overrated Berto is, I mean, what has this guy done to deserve such a high rank? Defeat an unmotivated, out of shape Quintana or have a half decent showing against Collazo??.. 'cause all other latest showings are an aberration of boxing, maybe more like hippie hugfests... If Cotto doesn't stop this guy in impressive fashion (unless forced into a hugfest) I'll be the 1st to say Cotto's best days are well past it!

I could see Cotto systematically breaking Berto down, stopping him later on.

Race or color has nothing to do with it. I don't even like Berto. I just know Cotto has been past it and Berto being the fresher more punch resistant, better handspeed, more power and slightly more stamina fighter gets Cotto who for some reason after beating Yuri Foreman, everyone thinks he's back. I now hope they do fight even though Bob won't dare because its too much risk unlike fellow in house stablemate Chavez Jr. If they fight Berto gets Cotto . I don't care what the majority think. I know Cotto just doesn't have "it" anymore to win against anyone who isn't a tomato can. If it happens you and everyone else will be my *****.

BERTO won't like it.... Cotto won't even get credit after making it look that easy.

Berto's hands are way faster than Cotto's. Berto is a better boxer, and can put his punches together than Miguel.
