Cintron was well past it. Lara just ran away and didn't even try to win. Angulo was a weight drained corpse. Kirkland was a glassed chinned brawler coming off over a years inactivity and had no trainer. His style was made to order for Canelo. He didn't get touched with one punch in the 3 rounds. Canelo ain't fought a live body who could crack his chin. Cotto will test that strap.
Cotto's stamina is a question mark. He hasn't had to go 12 since hooking up with Roach, but he moved a lot against Martinez and looked just fine towards the end.
Well if he can maintain that range of motion till the end against Canelo id give him the advantage against flat footed Canleo. But i don't see it. Against one legged Sergio yeah - - Canelo? - not likely
Why would the opponent matter with respect to stamina? He moved a lot against Sergio, and could move as much against Canelo. Unless he takes loads of punishment to the body. But he'll have to be in range for that. Thanks!
Nice breakdown. I think this fight will resemble Danny Garcia vs Mauricio Herrera. It will go the distance ending up with a close and controversial decision. Let's just hope it lives up to the hype.
Interesting. Garcia and Canelo do have some similarities. And Cotto will move and jab to an extend. Canelo usually gets 1 really favorable card that is off base. Hey, it's in the opening post but here you go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl2QDity9TQ&feature=youtu.be
Don't understand why you would think the opponent wouldn't factor into it. Sergio was too far gone to apply the pressure and attack needed to affect Cotto's stamina. Canelo is a heavy handed body shotter .Go to the body and you take the legs away.
As compelling and balanced this fight seemingly is I'm very black and white regarding the results. If canelo can utilize his size, youth and assumed strength advantages efficiently and effectively he should take this fight via late stoppage or UD. If Cotto can exploit and take advantage of canelo's mistakes use his boxing ability and snuff canelo's explosive combos with well timed jabs and counter left hooks he wins via late TKO or UD.
He was never a pressure fighter anyway, he was an ambush fighter. Cotto was only in range when he wanted to throw, and was bouncing around the whole fight. Canelo could weaken him to the body, as I said, but Cotto would have to be in range for that to happen. Canelo himself also isn't a great pressure fighter.
