From Rafael's noebook; Although no deal is signed, Miguel Cotto's June 13 fight at Madison Square Garden on the eve of New York's annual Puerto Rican Day parade probably will be a welterweight unification bout with New York's Joshua Clottey, Top Rank's Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters, told ESPN.com. "It'll be Clottey," he said. "It's the logical fight to do. Clottey wants the fight very badly and Miguel says fine. We still have come to terms with both fighters, but we'll get it done." Arum said. He's negotiating with HBO, and although they're apart on money, Arum said he thought it would work out. HBO, he said, was not interested in Cotto-Kermit Cintron, and titleholder Andre Berto was also out of the running. Arum said he also offered Cotto's next fight to Showtime, but it was "more concentrating on trying to do [Kelly] Pavlik's next fight." I'm very excited about this fight and I'm glad HBO said no to a Cotto/Cintron fight.
Great fight. I've been wanting to see Clottey get a shot. Although I feel Cotto will outwork Clottey to a win. Clottey will give Cotto hell for 12.
Interesting match up which I believe will be a very different fight to what people seem to think it will be. Cotto needs to plant to throw big punches but Clottey's defense and conditioning tells me that I just cannot see Clottey being knocked out. Definite 12 rounder, might be hard to score. I pick Cotto to take it down the stretch.
i cant wait to see how clottey reacts to being in the lions den (msg before the pr parade) ive seen matches when clottey actually has african drums banging during & between rounds... lets see if clottey gets that same following in nyc since he is from there and there are africans in new york (not african americans) i might try to get some tickets for this
