I would consider that exaggeration . You must've missed that rnd where Cotto trapped Clottey into a corner and kept him there for the majority of the rnd and tagged him repeatedly .
I had Cotto by 1 point. It was Clotteys fight to win but for some reason if I remember rightly he gave the last 2 rounds away throwing no punches and then moaned like a ***** when he didnt get the decision. Whenever Clottey threw punches he troubled Cotto a lot. If only Clottey would increase his punch output he would be very hard to beat.
That was THE turning point in the fight. It happened in the 5th Round when Clottey just sat in the corner and let Cotto just use him for a punching bag. Then he looked at Cotto and shook his head like "That's all you got?" Cotto jumped on his bike from that moment til the end of the fight. He didn't initiate a single exchange from that point forward. And Clottey outlanded him severely from that point on, and in the fight overall. Watch the fight again.
i don't remember my score, but i remember i had clottey winning by a slim margin. The thing with clottey was he was always too cautious. there were times he had cotto seriously hurt. if clottey had a little more balls he could have dropped cotto and dominated down the stretch or even knocked cotto out. instead, he let cotto back in teh fight. Clottey fought as if he didn't know he was in cotto's hometown and cotto is the bigger name. all cotto did in the last round was make it look good, dancing around the ring, throwing some flurries that missed, but it gave the pro-cotto crowd a reason to cheer and gave the judges a reason to vote for him. all the while clottey is stalking miguel throwing jabs. clottey's entire career is really a story about blown opportuniities.
Imma watch it today and score it, never have seen it entirely after the live fight. Esb logic, Ward is a dirty fighter because of deliberate headbutts but Clottley gets praised as if the headbutt had nothing to do with the fight
It was close but Clottey showed why he is what he is in this fight. He had a Cotto with a seriously battered eye early in the fight and still didn't push the action. It was his fight to win and he let it go with inactivity. He could've won it decisively but simply let Cotto stay in the fight.
