Cotto did not land one single punch. Yes, Clottey's defense is that good. And he wanted to prove it. Too bad you guys actually thought Cotto was landing or hurting him haha.
Well and there you have it. Majority of ESB'rs agree that Clottey won, and he is also better than a prime ike quartey. And btw, he will be back.
That's funny, because I had it the other way around. Watching the fight live without scoring it I thought Cotto won. Then after hearing other fans say Clottey was robbed I watched it again the next day and scored it for Clottey by one round. Either way, if you have to watch a fight twice then it means it was close, judges don't have replays and the final result stands.
Clottey is such a bum. I'll use Banks-Mitchell 2 to illustrate my point. When you watch the fight you can clearly see that Banks was the superior fighter, but yet he's losing most of the rounds. That's basically Clottey. I'll say Cotto & Clottey are on the same tier, but when watching the fight, I had the feeling Clottey could have actually won comfortably if he threw more punches but instead the fight was a toss up. Clottey being Clottey. He should have beat Margarito comfortably too. He is good enough to win atleast a round from Pacquaio lesser fighters have but Clottey can't win a round with his skillset?
Cotto was greatly helped by dropping Clottey with a jab in the first. It must've given a great impression that whatever Cotto threw could and would hurt Clottey. When the entire scoring system is subjective, a situation like that could greatly help your cause in making the case your winning the round, as it did here. I scored the fight for Cotto the first time, watching it the second time, Clottey. The difference was that I knew in watching the second time that Cotto's was not hurting Clottey to the level I was originally made to believe by Cotto dropping Josh with only a jab. I don't believe is was a case of favoritism, just unfortunate case of Clottey walking into a well timed solid jab that set the precedent for the scoring, just one of those cases that can happen in a sport where the winner is often times a matter of opinion.
Just like the fight , most posters are pretty even between Cotto and Clottey . Shows you how razor close this fight was .
I have no idea how anyone could've scored that fight for Cotto. Getting a flash knockdown in the first round and than getting your ass beat the rest of the 11 rounds doesn't win you a fight. That was one of the worst decisions I've seen since DLH fought Strum at 160.
it was the same for me in the Mosley and Oscar rematch. on the night (without scoring) i felt that Oscar had won it with a little room to spare. but when i scored it the next day, i had Shane by 1 point. i had Cotto winning by 1 point against Clottey. real close fight.
