Top Rank did a good job with Cotto up until the Mosley fight. After that fight, they should've pursued fights against Mayweather, Hoya, or possibly even Hatton. Instead, Arum was deadset on matching Cotto with Margarito. That turned out to be a disaster for Cotto. The Clottey fight was an even worse decision for Cotto. Cotto did not match up that well with Clottey and that wasn't a big money fight. You don't expose Cotto to that sort of risk without a handsome reward. This fight with Foreman is another example of Top Rank putting Cotto in a high risk/low reward fight.

Um yes, he needs his feet planted to throw, against Margo he punched off the back foot and his shots had very little power in them.

Cotto could've and should've done to Margo exactly what Shane did, had he fought smart, instead he fought scared and wasted alot of energy running around the ring and throwing ineffective punches.

Cotto doesn't have Mosley's length, punching power, chin, and he doesn't have a two fisted attack like Mosley does. Cotto also doesn't clinch as effectively as Mosley does. I don't see how Cotto could've done what Mosley did. He's just not that type of fighter.

No, that suggests more factors are to be considered. Such as, Santos coming in a light heavyweight on fight night for a junior middleweight bout, Clottey stunning Margarito with an uppercut he never saw coming, or Mosley stopping Margarito when he looked mentally and physically spent.

Mosley never seriously hurt Cotto. Yet, he stopped Margarito and nearly knocked Floyd's block off with the few flush shots he landed. Does this suggest Mosley's power was compromised when he fought Cotto? Not at all.

The state of Margarito's face and the way his head was repeatedly snapped back suggest otherwise. Same story with the Abduallev fight, another bout where Cotto fought almost exclusively on the back foot. There's no way in hell Margarito or Abdullaev would have looked the way they did if Cotto's punches "had very little power in them" when he didn't have his feet set.

Fighters like Kostya Tszyu who generate a tremendous amount of power by the leverage and extension they get on their punches are generally the type of fighters who suffer most when they are smothered or not able to have their feet set. Heavy handed fighters like Cotto, who may not have one punch knockout power, tend to have a throbbing effect with the majority of what they land.

He was outclassing Margo early, but instead of landing hard meaningful shots he wasted energy throwing ineffective shots and running around the ring. Had he touched the body early and went upstairs with authority, he likely would've worn Margo down. You could say Mayweather isn't as strong or durable as Mosley but I would bet top dollar he would either win a very lopsided UD or stop him late after a Gatti style beatdown.

If cotto can get inside & cut the ring off he should beat foreman. But if foreman can move around & keep cotto on the outside w/ his jab(which is not as bad jab at all), he may just beat cotto. Just depends on which version of cotto shows up.

Credit to Cotto for taking on the llikes of Margo, Pac, Mosley and CLottey.

But if these guys were all "bad-matchups" then he didn't belong with the elite at 147.

Foreman may not be a puncher, But Cotto will feel the punch difference @ 154lbs.
I am not looking past Foreman in this fight.

Top Rank has done a good job. Unlike Floyd, Cotto's problem isn't matchmaking. It is the fact that he has been training himself for years, shows up at a big fight not knowing what to do with his man. He is a fighter with amazing gifts who was too loyal to family and friends, choosing to have a trainer "not on speaking terms with him" than one that is actually worried about the fight.
