I'm hearing Cotto may take this as a stay busy fight for his upcoming match up vs Opie Alvarez on Cinco De Mayo!

I watched the GGG vs Rubio fight live and was not impressed whatsoever...GGG is much slower than I expected and a flawed defense.
    Backs up like an amateur.

Will definitely get schooled by a skilled fighter!!!!

I expect that's quite hard with all the echoing going on in that hollow space.

Fact of the matter is that GGG is simply "robotic"!!!

...and will get schooled against a skilled opponent...certainly not against another robot like "Rock em Sock em" Rubio!

Excellent. Now, if you can just work on convincing Cotto that this is an assured win...

I'm pretty sure that GGG will even take a pay cut for a Cotto fight so it should be an easy sell.

Not sure how real that rumor is and tbh I don't see Cotto winning this one unless he fights GGG similar to the way he fought Mosely popping in and out of quick exchanges using his jab and avoiding standing straight in front of GGG. If he fights the perfect fight without eating too much leather he could certainly pull off a tight decision. I'd lean towards a GGG tko with Cotto having some good moments even busting up GGG's face a bit i.e. bloody nose swollen eye.

That is a very likely panorama....especially with Roach in his corner. He will definitely exploit his flaws and neutralize his strengths.
Hopefully he can do it not fighting off the backfoot...sit down on some good combos and body shots. He will most likely disrupt him with a stiff jab all night.

Will be interesting to see how Alfred reacts when he gets rocked!!!

Bad match up for Cotto. Margarito almost stopped him again in the second fight.

GGG is more skilled, bigger, and a far harder puncher than Margarito who will deliver non-stop pressure.

Cotto will take a beating in this fight. Cotto is a great fighter, but styles make fights.

Don't get me wrong, Cotto may have some success by using his jab and utilizing ring movement, but at some point, he's going to get into a fight and when that happens, it will not end well for Cotto.

I agree with the thread starter though, that this fight DOES need to happen. If Cotto has no intention of fighting the best fighter at the weight, he should give up his belt.

Just like Mayweather needs to fight Pacquaio. Afterall, Pacquaio was his mandatory, yet Mayweather still came up with excuses to avoid him.

Cotto is no Mayweather though. The guy has balls. He fought both Pacquaio and Margarito, two things that Mayweather was WAY WAY WAY TOO SCARED TO DO.

So, I don't doubt Cotto is willing to test himself against GGG. Personally, if I were Cotto, I fight Canelo and call it a career unless I can get Mayweather to fight me again.

Unfortunately, that robs fans of seeing GGG demolish guys that will duck him because he's not the "lineal champ."
