Think about all the quick fighters Cotto has already faced consecutively. Malignaggi, Judah, Mosley and Quintana (not quick but slick) He has dealt with their speed fairly well and has been able to avoid from getting blasted by their firepower even at the speed that they throw it at. Margarito is not even close to their speed, And to think that If Cotto hits Margarito to the body and slows him down even a hair slower than he already is, My god this will be another absolute slaughtering by the hands of Cotto.
I always knew about Cotto's complete boxing abilities, but what I really liked from this fight was his defense. He blocked alot of punches but it was deftly moving away and anticipating every single straight right hand/overhand right that Gomez threw that was nice. Sure, it was Gomez but I counted in total maybe only 2 right hands that he landed. Each and everyone that followed, Cotto knew it was coming and swiftly stepped to the side of it and Gomez was left hanging every single time. Impressive. It looked like the early/mid days of the 140lb Cotto, powerful, fast with great combinations and light on his feet coupled w/his enphasis on defense.
