    Cotto- Gomez got a 1.1

"As for Joe Calzahge vs. Mikkel Kessler being the lowest rated World Championship Boxing card of all time...That has now been dethroned by the double header of Miguel Cotto - Alfonso Gomez

Calzahge - Kessler almost did 1.6 while Cotto - Gomea did 1.1"

from another site that has a message board so i'm not allowed to post a link as per the rules.

PM me and I'll hit you with it. Also Hopkins - Simon Brown did better then Hopkins-Calzahge but as proven by Cal vs Kessler americans don't know Calzahge.

So much for Cotto being a draw.

Exactly and that's why he needs to build his name up. Sure he's known on boxing forums and in Puerto Rico but to the average sports fan's he's an unkown. But his delusional fans are to blind to see this. PBF is right Cotto needs to build up his name and the fight between them will be much bigger than if it came off next week. I wish the fight could happen now but it makes more sense for both of them for it to happen down the road.

I've been saying Cotto doesn't have a huge draw, but all the Cotto die-hards don't want to believe it. I've been all across the country and in every place people at least have heard of Floyd Mayweather, whether from dancing with the stars, wrestling or boxing, but only in New York ,where I reside. do people have a clue who Miguel Cotto is.

That's stunning. The seemingly very popular Cotto coming from a fight vs. Mosley vs. a seemingly popular former The Contender fighter... and getting a horrible rating? :huh

Well, Dawson, Tarver and Johnson might have to do something with that. But if Tarver, the biggest name since he was the first to KO Jones can do better than Cotto then Miguel is not as popular as Arum thinks...

Who will buy Cotto-Margarito PPV other than the hardcore fight fans who KNOW that it will be a terrific fight?

Oh well, at least we can hope that Arum will stage this fight on regular HBO... But I wouldn't bet money on that. He's making Chavez Jr. vs. bums and PacMan vs. lucky Top Rank fighters a PPV...

A lot of that has to do imo with Cotto never beating a champion for his belts. He has always fought for vacant titles and has never beat a reigning champ.

These statistics aren't good for boxing fans.

The Calzaghe-Kessler fight and Hopkins-Calzaghe fights definitely were major fights in terms of importance, and yet they apparently recieved dismal ratings.

Not good at all. Wonder what Showtimes ratings were with the Tarver/Dawson card?

I thought Fraud only fights for legacy anyway. :rofl

Just another sad attempt to justify his cowardice.

Who gives a **** about numbers? Nobody can use this as a reason for Floyd to wait longer to fight him. I think by the time Floyd fights and loses clearly to Cotto (late 2009 probably), his fans will say Floyd was past-it/inactive and would beat Cotto in his prime. Cotto would beat any version of Floyd at 147 and this fight needs to be made faster.

The only hype Cotto-PBF needs to become a big PPV success is 24/7.

    In comparison to those figures:

Joe Calzaghe vs. Bernard Hopkins (which had about 1.9 Mio viewers in the US - prime time) was viewed by more than 1 Mio households in Germany at 8 am in the morning (about 3 hours tape-delayed).

Only difference to HBO (which is a premium cable channel) is that RTL is free to air.

maybe true but i would love to see how many people can Floyd get to watch a HBO card by himself "fighting some unknown boxer".

I mean , he thinks hes a big draw , but hes biggest fights are against the Delahoyas and Hattons of the divisions

Remember DelaHoya vs Trinidad, I don't remember Trinidad being neither a huge draw back then, And Look the numbers the fight make .

I think the low ratings for Cotto/Gomez had a lot to do with the fact that nobody cared about this fight.

I agree I wish it would happen today but Arum hasn't made an offer.

I doubt that Cotto's defense is to poor to beat an accurate puncher like PBF.
