Your telling me that there are no bigger fights to be made. That he couldn't fight Marg, Williams, Cintron, Clottey, Oscar, Mosley in a rematch, Collazo ect ect. What rubbish.
Hard to believe, but pretty much true. Let me break it down; Margo - Arum is setting up a fight between the two in July. He wants the fight to be on PPV. It will sell alot better if Margo is coming off a win over Judah rather than Golden Johnson Williams - He's fighting in February. There's no guarentee that he'll win or not suffer an injury that won't allow him to fight in April. Plus, a unification bout between those two needs more than 2 months to properly promote Cintron - He has a mando lined up with Clottey. Clottey is also promoted by Arum. The mando isn't due until the end of the year. However, Arum isn't going make Clottey wait in line just to add another belt to Cotto's collection Clottey - See Cintron Oscar - He has a fight lined up with Money May. No way in hell would he take a tuneup against Cotto first. Collazo - He brings nothing to the table. He's lost two out of his last four(including 1 to a guy Cotto just beat). He has no belt, no real fanbase, and he doesn't have a crowd pleasing style. Gomez is more famous and exciting than Collazo. Mosley - This could happen, however it will not advance Cotto's career. Mosley is 36 and won't be around much longer. Cotto already beat him and the PPV did worse than Arum expected.
Uhm he did beat Manfredo who is a good top-20 SMW, I repeat SMW, that just gave Jeff Lacy a very tough fight.
yes that's the summary of the welter division in the next months. BTW I see a lot of people writing Mosely instead of Mosley, is that a Nickname or something? Just asking.
I like both these fighters a lot, but I do not like this fight! I think gomez is just good enough to take a hellacious, possibly career threatening, beating before Cotto knocks him out. Boo
Margarito would be more outmatched than Gomez. :yep That said, this is a pretty big mismatch. It will be interesting to see if/when Cotto stops Gomez for the first time. And as long as it lasts, it will be exciting, that much can't be denied.
There are better fights available in terms of legacy though. Collazo, Mosley and Cintron and Clottey are still very much available IMO. Regardless, I can see your point that if he fights Gomez SOON, then it will lead to a better fight. I really hope that he fights Gomez sometime in Feb then or early March, setting up unification with Williams.
Should Gomez pull off the extremely highly improbable, You'll see the likes of Mayweather and DLH crawl out of the woodwork.
I think this is getting overlooked also cuz of Mayweather/DLH/Cotto hoopla. But personally I would rather see Gomez/Cotto than Cotto/Mayweather. Cotto/Mayweather is good for seeing who will be on top but for an action fight I'd rather watch Cotto fight Gomez.
Cotto by KO.. no point of even discussing a fight like this. Gomez would have to be one tough ******* to even last 10 rounds with Cotto. You can't get mad at Cotto though, he always took on challenges and risky fights throughout his career and this is just a tune-up for a bigger fight anyways. Unfortunately, it's up to Floyd to make the most important fight in boxing right now happen and it looks like he wants to duck him for as long as he can.
