Kirkland. Too big, too powerful, and an even worst style match up than Margo.

I'm having a hard time trying to imagine anyone who might be worse for Cotto in style and approach, despite the fact that Cotto has the clear edge in experience and demonstrated excellence... Still, we'll seperate the fans from the fanboys, and the clever from the crafty on this one. Good post, Z. ^

Thanks, the truth is I really don't see how Cotto could beat Kirkland no matter how much I would like him to. Sure Kirkland chooses to ignore his defense in many parts of his fight, but I think it's because he feels comfortable and like he proved against Julio, he does have the chin to take a few good shots. Add to that the fact he's bigger than Margo, faster, stronger, probably a harder puncher and a southpaw. He also trains very hard and has never shown signs of fatigue that I can remember so if we added all up I think anybody would have a hard time finding a worse style matchup than Kirkland for Cotto in his fighting weight range.

Great posts. I agree and I pick Kirkland by way of TKO in the 8th round.

Agreed Kirkland would walk right through him ending it in the mid rounds.

I'd pick Cotto over any welterweight right now and I still think he could beat Mayweather Jr. if the fight ever happens but you guys could possibly be right about this matchup, only because of styles. Kirkland definetly ain't better than Cotto though.

    Cotto would comprehensively outbox Kirkland.

Posters really think about this thoroughly. Kirkland has yet to go past eight rounds and is recklas at times. His hands are by his sides after approximately five rounds. I still think he is one of those fighters that if he doesn't get you out of there, he is in trouble. I admit that he is strong and powerful, but a crafty boxer who is fearless, strong, technical, and experience like Cotto is not going to go out like Julio did.

His defence is his face. Trains hard? Don't get fooled by all this shoveling tires and hitting heavy bags while a car is moving. Margo chin is good and so wasn't Tyson's. If you keep getting hit like how Mosley was hitting Margo, something has to happen. Either Mosleys fists break or Margo is going. Julio was fighter moving backwards due to of course Kirklands heavy hands. Fatigue; his hands were down to his sides after I believe round four. I am not a hater, but let's slow down with him beating Cotto especially if he is not proven yet.

Unless I don't understand your post, but fans from fanboys? You putting a proven fighter against a I knock you out or you knock me out type of fighter whos hands are by his sides by the fourth round. Come out with this thread once Kirkland is proven. Stylewise? The young cat is still green and throwing careless punches that someone like Cotto would counter and put him on his ass.

Kirkland ain't ready for prime time yet.
Show's promise, But let's not get carried away.
(A fighter with Cotto's style & EXP would pick Youngin' apart)

He's not a defensive fighter so you wont really see him trying to defend himself when he feels comfortable enough to taunt the guy with his hands on his side (no, they were not there because he was tired, he actually looked quite fresh after breaking Joel Julio down). I'm a huge Miguel Cotto fan, but I'm just that, a fan. I'm not his lawyer and I think the pressure Kirkland brings to the table is far worse than the one Margo brought on Cotto, after all, he is bigger, faster, stronger, I'm pretty confident he's also a harder puncher and he's a southpaw. Like I said before, I haven't seen him show any signs of fatigue altohugh he has not been taken the distance too many times.
