Arum mentioned the possiblity of Cotto fighting Kirkland at 154 had he beat Margo. It probably won't happen now, but it's a viable fight in the future. So who takes it and why?

Cotto's a better boxer than Margarito too, but look what happened in that fight. The better boxer often win, he does not always win. Which is precisely why it's fun to be a boxing fan.

He's also a better boxer than Margo. How'd that work out for him?

Kirkland is pretty big, fast, throws straight punches, has great power, and always comes foward. However, his defense is suspect and he's no Margo in the chin department. It would be an interesting fight. Cotto is definately the better boxer. The only question is if he can keep Kirkland off of him, and how well he can take his Kirkland's shots.

margarito is a very special case. i dont think anyone between 147 and 154 could have walked through that kind of punishment. i havent seen much of kirkland but i doubt he has the same freakish chin margarito does.

I think Kirkland is way to big for Cotto. He is also very aggressive and hits extremely hard. Cotto could box but Kirkland would have Cotto against the ropes as he tends to go there when pressed (i.e. Abdolaev, Ndou, Margo and Mosely in spots)

Kirkland By ugly KO Middle Rounds

True guys that he was a better boxer against Margarito but Margarito has a great chin. Kirkland doesn't have a good one. Cotto by KO.

Kirkland is 5'9 that's not ''way to big for Cotto.''

Do you guys remember Alfonso Gomez? He was fighting natural MW and SMW and never got Knocked out. Cotto did it in 5. Cotto has enough power to hurt people up to MW IMO. So He should be able to take out Kirkland no problem. Besides doesnt Kirland have a shaky chin?

That's how I feel Cotto hit Margarito with many punches that would slow down most fighters and that would include Kirkland.
