I think the big difference is that Gomez was not a big puncher.

I just dont think he would handle Kirklands power very well.

Why do people think Cottos chin is shaky still?
He took such a beating in his last fight and went 11 with a guy that would not stop punching him for a second. Cotto can take a hell of a shot and Kirkland wouldnt do much damage to him. Besides Cotto is too good of a boxer to be hit too much by Kirkland.

Cotto was stunned a few times against Margo and was busted up pretty good. Kirkland is a bigger puncher than Margo. Kirkland definately has the ability to put Cotto out. I think this is a hard fight to predict due to the weight and the lack of top level experience from Kirkland. Cotto was hit too much by Margo. Kirkland is a bigger puncher, faster, and his punches are straighter. I'm leaning towards Cotto here. However, you just never know with him. His chin is shaky, and fighting at that weight won't improve it.

His boxing skills mean he wont be getting outboxed. However it doesnt mean he will not get hit to much because lets face it his defense is leaky and he gets hit with alot of shots he shouldnt.

I want to say Cotto but I just don't know if he can handle an average 154 pounder's punching power much less Kirkland's who might be the biggest puncher of the division. If Cotto can somehow avoid getting clobbered with a one of Kirkland's haymakers then he can definitely pull out a decision win.

I would stay away if I was Cotto though.

    Cotto easy

Good comeback fight for Cotto, and good payday for Kirkland. I like it.

Does anyone else think Cotto should hook up with Mayweather Sr. to work on his defense. Really that is his only weakness.

Kirkland looks outstanding at this point, even this early in the game. Tough call.

    interesting fight.

could see cotto landing the cleaner blows, boxing safe, and wearing down kirkland. or i could see the bigger man (kirkland) pressuring cotto and stopping him early. i went with kirkland.
