I know Cotto had trouble in this fight but remember that this was the only fight that a fighter had over 24 hours to rehydrate before the fight (Bob Arum made sure that was in the contract before the fight). I think Cotto won the fight and Paulie did hold sometimes but It wasn't every minute like a Ruiz. I don't think it was all Cotto being drained for losing the rounds. I think he was tired for throwing a lot in the early round after he knocked down Paulie. I'm a fan of both Cotto and Paulie and I didn't think it was a bad fight and I wouldn't mind if they fought again.
LOL @ you cotto fans saying Cotto let him win 5 rounds....just like Cotto letting Torres having his way with him in round 3 of their fight
Good post, although Paulie did win at least a couple of rounds legitimately by frustrating Cotto from the outside, and keeping his workrate very high. Cotto's stamina definitely played a big part though.
What he is pointing out is valid though. I wouldn't say that Paulie only won every round because Cotto let him, that is too far. But Cotto did have stamina issues in a big way at 140, and certainly did take rounds off at times. At 147 he has been a different fighter so far.
If anybody was gonna go the distance with Cotto I was sure it wouldn't be Malignaggi. I came away with tremendous respect for the guy cuz I thought he was all style and no substance. He proved just about everyone wrong. Most people who step in the ring with Cotto don't make it out on their feet and if they do it's cuz the referee stepped in while they were getting pounded.
