This is business man, promotion is part of the game.Hatton rode on Floyd's coat. After beating a washed up Castillo Hatton called Floyd out and all of a sudden people took notice.

As a matter of fact on the Cotto-Margaritto promotion all Bob Arum did was calling Mayweather out and talking about Mayweather instead of Cotto.I bet if Arum hadnt talked about Mayweather this fight wouldnt even have gone over the 400k mark.In short these 2 even used Mayweather to generate sales from non boxing fans.

Can you explain why Arum was talking about Mayweather at the conferences apart from getting press coverage?

he wasn't going to make 35 million in the rematch...He wasn't going to be even close to what he made in the 1st fight.... because the fans were not about to be ****ed a second time for their $60.

I bought this fight. It was such a good fight, it deserves to do well. And both fighters are tough and deserve everyone's respect. Both fighters deserve the money they made.

Get your facts right man.Oscar offered Floyd $35 million (even Floyd sr said that) Floyd Jr asked for $50m this is before PPV.In business you offer low and settle for a higher amount (in Oscar's situation) and vice versa for Floyd's situation. The result would have been around $43m-$45m.

The second fight was still going to sell as much because the shift was on Floyd sr and heavy promotion.

You haters are like chimpanzees jumping one tree to another. First you claim he's all about money, when he declines a rematch with DLH and declining the big money offered there you insantly find any other option to hate on. Now you're picking on his PPV buys which are by far the highest and the record breaking PPV event INCLUDES his name. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, accept it or just rot where you are because your bull**** won't change anything.

the truth is that floyd is a draw, he has a large following in the hip hop culture and he did hold the p4p title for a while. it is also true that without dlh and hatton he would not have sold half those numbers.
his style of fighting is not viewer friendly so without the right opponent he would draw only a fraction of what a true crossover star would.
yes he has his huggers who would pay to watch him take a **** but the general public is pretty indifferent towards him and no its not because he is black or because he is an ass but because he fails to capture the publics imagination in the ring.

Yea because we all know that Gatti, DLH and Hatton aren't crossover names.

**** this place has gotten out of hand recently. It's like the Margarito win brought out more apes than it did anything else.

Floyd is one of the most successful stars of our generation and has captured the public imagination. His fans can be grouped into classes
1 The hard core fans-these admire his technical expertise, his craftsmanship, ring genaralship ,movement defense and work ethic.

2 The wider fans, these are genarally not boxing fans but will show up when Floyd is fighting.Among them are celebrities who only appear when Floyd is fighting and not when Cotto or Margaritto. He doesnt invite them, they make sure they buy their tickets quickly before they run out.Unlike Hatton who pleads for the likes of Tyson to attend his events as a form of endorsements,Floyd has a name and people voluntarily pitch up.These are high value spenders, who will pay tones of money to be at the event.Among them are Silvester Stallone,Denzel Washington rather the who is who of this world. Some of them are presidential candidates like Barak Obama who cant attend because of obvious reasons, they know Floyd but have never heard of Margaritto.

3 Floyd's biggest fanbase-These are the ones who cant stand him but will be the first to buy his fights thinking possibly someone will knock him out. These type of fans are quick to identify the 'next person' who will beat Floyd and will often elevate this so called next guy to heroic status. These are the fans who picked up Cotto to beat Floyd, they picked up Hatton to beat Floyd, they picked up Baldomir to beat Floyd and every fighter who was to fight Floyd was the one to do it.Although always disappointed they buy his fights.

This group is complicated, either they like Floyd but are in denial or Floyd knows how to reach out to them so they can reach out to their pockets.

The indifference curve for Floyd has many people at the extremes very few in the middle, people either like him or hate him but they are all prepared to pay to see him fighting. Its a see saw, extreme swinging only in perpetuity

That explains why a Margaritto thread ended up being a Floyd thread.Common sense unless you are in denial. The Cotto_Margaritto thread was deemed as the best fight of the WW,yet people talk more about a retired Floyd in threads.Doesnt that mean anything to you?
